QuoteThe man who died after being sucked out of a Somali passenger jet in midair on Monday appears to have been the person who detonated the bomb, reports the Wall Street Journal.

Citing a diplomatic source, the Journal’s Heidi Vogt writes that the man was able to “bypass rigorous security screening in Mogadishu” by arriving to the airport in a wheelchair. The source said the man was loaded onto the plane in the wheelchair and then moved to a regular seat. Five minutes after takeoff he then would have detonated the bomb and been pulled through the resultant hole in the fuselage.

All other passengers survived the incident, meaning this ended up being closer to a Jackass stunt than a terror attack.

My candidate for a Darwin award right there......

"Five minutes after takeoff he then would have detonated the bomb and been pulled through the resultant hole in the fuselage."

"would have"?

But didn't it actually happen?

There was a prominent government official on board.  He was obviously an incompetent assassin ... I don't think he was trying to attack others, except as collateral damage ... just like Obama's drone strikes.

That confused me too.  The actual article is a bit more clear with a photo of the bomb hole.

The underwear bomber is still number one in my book.  It's too bad this guy doesn't have a soul that could watch the bungle bombing from the afterlife.  I'd like to know his reaction.

I'm assuming the erstwhile bomber blew a hole in the airplane and then got sucked through it. You are never there to see the fun shit when it happens. Sad. Imagine describing that to your grand kids.

Apparently, he misunderstood how the suicide part works. Good riddance.

Just the writer's style. English do this more than Americans, from my own observation. They would have assumed that everybody understood them.
We 'new atheists' have a reputation for being militant, but make no mistake  we didn't start this war. If you want to place blame put it on the the religious zealots who have been poisoning the minds of the  young for a long long time."

If only more suicide bombing attempts would result in similar circumstances: well-deserved comeuppance with no deaths of innocents.
