The solar system is all set to give a rare celestial show.

Mercury, Venus, Saturn, Mars and Jupiter will all be visible from Earth when they appear in a diagonal row before dawn on Wednesday, Jan. 20.

It's the first time the five bright planets, so called as they can usually be seen easily with the naked eye, have aligned in such a way in more than 10 years, reports EarthSky.org.

The phenomenon will continue every early morning until Feb. 20.

Reminds me, a couple months ago we had another two star enlightenment in the eastern sky, two bright celestial objects rather close to the moon. The wife yelled at me from the back porch...."oh my gawd, is SOMETHING happening"? I walked out to see her staring at the sight and asked her, "like what?"
"I don't know, maybe a meteor heading at us?'

"Oh, yeah...um....no"

She mumbled and went back to her computer game.......she is the embodiment of the end times when people are so into video games or computers games that we could walk into the back yard and slap her before she knew it was past bedtime.

Oh good. Nice to know what I won't be seeing because the forecast is for overcast and a snow storm.

The end is near then. Send me your money so that I can be a good steward of your pets when you get raptured..

Joe ... not good for the planets to be in alignment, otherwise the stuff Velikovsky talked about, could knock the Earth into the side pocket ;-)

Well Velikovsky predicted Venus to have a Hydrocarbon atmosphere so he got one right. Yes I've read Velikovsky. what happens when you hang out with conspiracy theorists. I've also read critiques that hammered his conclusions, so there you go.

It has been proven that the solar system orbits tend toward chaos rather than stability ... but not really like billiards.  More like how Pluto might be a former satellite of Neptune.

Snow/overcast until the end of the month. Beyond that its up to the groundhog. Wouldn't matter anyway, got a thing called the Wasatch Mountains between me and the Eastern sky.

Venus has an atmosphere overwhelmingly of CO2, a little nitrogen, and small amounts of SO2 and water, plus a few other gases, but no hydrocarbons.

I remember as a kid, I saw my uncle (a conspiracy-minded fellow) had a Velikovsky book. Curious, I read a bit of it. My conclusion: "That's not how you science."

Velikovsky relied on some whacko interpretations of Bronze Age chronology... to justify astronomical events (unrepeatable ones) from the distant past.  Carbon dating pretty much shuts his argument down.  There could be rogue events ... but they are very hard to prove (say the formation of the Earth/Moon from the collision of previous planetoids).
