Salamanders that live in caves have lost over thousands of years their eyesight.

This is what Christopher Hitchens wrote about them to Richard Dawkins:

Vestigial eyes, for example, are clear evidence that these cave salamanders must have had ancestors who were different from them—had eyes, in this case. That is evolution. Why on earth would God create a salamander with vestiges of eyes? If he wanted to create blind salamanders, why not just create blind salamanders? Why give them dummy eyes that don't work and that look as though they were inherited from sighted ancestors? Maybe your point is a little different from this, in which case I don't think I have seen it written down before.

God created vestigial eyes on cave salamanders for the same reason that he placed things that look like the bones of huge "lizards" in certain strata of rocks: in order to test our faith. Essentially, we are not meant to take these things seriously: God has a puckish sense of humour. Genesis ueber alles! (Right, Romans?)

There is a mollusk that had a simple insect like eye but over time in the oceans deep lost the eye to atrophy. Decedents moved out of the depths and evolved a more fish like eye. Dawkins talks about it in one of his books. That and the fish that evolved two sets of different eyes, one pair that looks up and one pair that looks down. Creationists are screwed. they have no argument for vestigial organs and the irreducible complexity argument is laughable.

A creationist will simply answer (wrongly) that evolution implies an ever increasing complexity so genetic degradation leading to loss of eyesight isn't evolution proper.

They might answer that way, but that stems from a misunderstanding of evolution theory.

And eyes are not irreducibly complex, as shown in this vid:

PZ Myers gets more specific with vestigal eye development.

There is no such thing as a vestigial organ, evolutionists are editing animals to make them have body parts they shouldn't so they can push their pro-satan theories.

(True story, some one told me that...)

So Hitchens, who claims not to believe in god, is now dictating what an infinitely intelligent creator should have done? How arrogant etc etc...

It's rather like the creationist claiming that God created Jupiter to act as a giant asteroid vacuum to keep us safe on Earth. But there are far more simpler ways to keep us safe, like not creating a giant freaking asteroid belt.
