It's great composition that works well in a cartoon. It's a very convincing orchestra. My only criticisms are the machine gunning of the snare and the lack of life in the timpani. These minor issues are easily fixed. If you like it that way, pardon me.

Yeah, that was something I couldn't get to translate well from the midi. (The song is originally from a video game.) I was trying to find a good drumroll sound I could use, but since they all sounded like really crappy "machine-gun snares" I decided to just stick with an actual snare.

Nice job. Drum rolls are almost impossible to pull off using one shot drum hits.

I just did this in a few minutes.

There is no humanization of the meter, and it still sounds alright. I of course used volume differences on the single truncated sample, but I also used an auto filter to make the roll more musical. The auto filter is the free Kjaerhus Audio Classic Auto Filter. It's hard to find today, but I'm sure there's a comparable freebie.

There's always the option of triggering an actual drum roll sample. I use a short roll in my favorite kit.

I'd like to hear something original from you.

I second that.

Well most of my originals are getting a little old now, but here's a few I still feel comfortable sharing. And when I say old, I mean that some of these were originally made when I was still in highschool.

This was maybe the second or third song I ever did. I touched up the instruments a couple years ago, but the actual composition has not changed since I originally uploaded it in 2009 on my old channel.

I've mentioned in the past that I'm involved in a fan project with the goal of creating an Advance Wars clone for the PC. This is the menu music I made for it.

This one is very, very old. Almost old enough to make my list of things I'm too embarrassed to show off here.

And the last one I still feel comfortable linking to. Another highschool piece. I really liked that saw instrument back then, for some reason...

If you're really hell-bent on hearing the rest that I did way back when, you'll have to go find them yourself. :P

There are two types of ideas: fact and non-fact. Ideas which are not falsifiable are non-fact, therefore please don't insist your fantasies of supernatural beings are in any way factual.

Doctrine = not to be questioned = not to be proven = not fact. When you declare your doctrine fact, you lie.

I like your stuff. You're far less corny than I was in high school back in the early eighties. I took all my early works, on cassette, and threw into the city dump. I walked right up to the edge and threw boxes of art, music, and writing into the sprawling pile. It was cathartic. I broke out of a rut.

My 15 year old daughter says your Advance Wars theme sounds like an Advance Wars theme. Congratulations. I should learn to play it, as I like board games.

Now I kind of want to hear what you made.

I might have a tape or 2 of some college and later stuff. I'll look around for them.

The high school stuff showed my composition experimentation or learning. I layered with cassette. It's listenable, but it's clearly student quality."Sounds familiar" is a good label for it.

Hijiri, I enjoyed those highly orchestrated pieces. Such depth and detail. I was thinking of trying to compose some epic type music. I do a bit of chill already.

What DAW do you use?

I was planning on finishing an album this year, but that ia back on hold now. Have a few 'snippits' minus any mastering. I am using Mixcraft 9 and a Yamaha synth.

Some chill

Those are pretty good!

I'm afraid I don't remember what I was using back then, though, other than that it was an older version of FL Studio. I lost the software along with all my files in a couple hard drive crashes a couple years ago. (Learn from my mistake: backup your shit.)
