Particularly the Intro and Epilogue.

How are Plato, Melville and Nietzsche connected?  And why does it matter?

Festive cheer does not help much.
What is this, "Justice?"

Solitary ... I liked the quotes too ... like axioms behind the deep literary analysis

dtq123 ... I don't pretend to understand it myself ... just to show an example of something that has been heavily analyzed, that isn't the Bible ... which I treat as literature.  On the other hand, some of the text in the analysis implies that some people treated Moby Dick as a kind of scripture ... hmmm.  And of course like the Bible, there are some "facts" behind it, the wreck of the whale ship Essex ... which has been made into a recent movie.  But that probably can't be turned into a self revelation of the intellectual development of Herman Melville.  Herman Melville did interview one of the survivors of the Essex ... who told him a horrible story ... that scared the hell out of me when I was 14 ... and that gave him the idea for Moby Dick ... though it is no more history or biography, than the Bible is.

Thug Notes?  No, I haven't seen them.  But they seem to be a good idea ;-)
