The new Thor trailer dissapoints me... looks too much "Guardians of the Galaxy"-y. That was okay for GotG, but it just seems kinda obnoxious if that becomes every movies thing.

I watched " The Secret Life of Walter Middy". It was for free so it was okay when all you have on is re-runs or reality TV or dozens of Easter specials purporting to know the exacts whereabouts of Jesus who is alive after all living in Brooklyn somewhere....
But....a nice movie. 6

One recently new movie I will not watch is The Shack.

Yep, just another propaganda movie for the born again Christians.
QuoteRotten Tomatoes  19%
Critics Consensus: The Shack's undeniably worthy message is ill-served by a script that confuses spiritual uplift with melodramatic clichés and heavy-handed sermonizing.

seems to be the direction marvel movies are going in, GotG and Deadpool were super popular because of the humor, things like thor and thor dark world not as much, so they ignore tradition and do this to the determent of the fans.

This seems to be a Hollywood thing.  Something that has a unique popularity get's bludgeoned with repetition into mediocrity.  Creativity is put on hold until no more blood can be squeezed from the turnip.

So here's your couple-years-too-late review.

I'm not a big movie goer, so I usually end up catching things on DVD long after they've been out.  I also avoid Marvel Universe movies like an AIDS-raddled ebola-carrying plague rat because I loathe what's become of Marvel over the last 25 years.

So I was surprised to find myself basically enjoying 'Guardians of the Galaxy'.  It's predictable, annoying scenes meant to be seen in 3D that are pointless padding in 2D are annoying, and seeing it on the big screen would have left me with motion sickness and/or a headache (Speed Racer was the worst offender -- I barely managed it on the small screen and had to leave the room during the final race sequence), but it's a fun roller coaster ride with good snappy dialogue.

It ain't high art, but it doesn't pretend to be -- there are few things worse than FX porn that wants to be taken seriously, and GotG not only avoids that trap, it avoids being in the same continent as that trap.

Yeah, Thor is looking a bit more colorful lately:

Good for Thor.  The other Thor movies were okay, but neither one really clicked with me.  Maybe Ragnarok will be one.

Speaking of color, I'm glad we could get beyond the stupid black leather era and present these characters in actual color, like how they were presented in the comics:

Hidden Figures. Good show, but it could easily have been a three part if they would have followed up on the accomplishments these women did. When one reads the (can't think of the word for the paragraphs of follow up info following the end) "credits" of the women, it is then you finally understand what they went on to accomplish. Good story.
I agree--it was an excellent movie.

I just started the book.  Excellent stuff.

Good because it shows what people can do, even against opposition?  Or another chapter in American self hate?

Assassins Creed  3/10
I haven't played that game, but the movie looks like the format of a first person shooter, with usually one player taking on one battle after another with multiple opponents.  Some opponents are what games often refer to as "bosses", and are much harder to kill than others.  The fighting often takes place in stone tunnels or visually interesting rooms of laboratories and castles with delightful architectures.  The plot line has the simplicity of a game, and exists only as matrix for the battles.  There are some excellent actors, who are not given many circumstances to utilize or demonstrate their talent.  I stopped watching 3/4 of the way through.

As a side note, I seem to remember Chris Pratt may have got his start playing a very dull and mostly unimportant role as the boyfriend of Pam in The Office.  I haven't looked it up, but I think that was him.  His only function was to be the guy that Pam gets stolen from by Jim (??)  It was really a nothing role, and at the time, I thought of Pratt as a nothing actor destined for a short career in film.  It must have been hard for him to contain himself by just sitting on his talent.  I'm happy he was able break out of that character and make it big.  Today, I would watch any movie he is in without even bothering to read a review.
