Just watched There's Something about Mary. It's almost my life story minus the happy ending and I ran into my "Mary" (named Paige) years later and she'd gained about 250 lbs and a really bad alcohol and drug problem. Talk about fucking disappointed. Geeez!

C- at best, due to the lack of the Moody Blues. That wasn't fair.
We 'new atheists' have a reputation for being militant, but make no mistake  we didn't start this war. If you want to place blame put it on the the religious zealots who have been poisoning the minds of the  young for a long long time."

Yeah, I thought that when I saw the title, "how cool is that title, I hope they have a snippet of the song",,but as I have heard nothing about it, I am disappointed. They are my favorite of all time

Same here, until I went to a KISS concert. KISS was silly, but the lead-off band was doing their second album and one song really hit me, "By-Tor and the Snow Dog." Been hooked on them ever since.

C- at best? Disappointing.
For reasons noted. Otherwise it was a fun movie. Plot holes you could send an Ironman bearing a nuke through, but I don't mind those, we get to laugh about them over dinner after.

By-Tor and the Snow Dog

Got to hear that live a couple or three times in the 70s and early 80s. The first time was the very last venue for the 2112 tour on August 1st 1976. Their next show a week later kicked off the All the World's a Stage tour. The set list didn't change much.

#595
the LEGO movie
9/10

This movie wanted to be (mostly) fast paced AND create the illusion of LEGO-stop-motion... that means blocks, which means increments, and that means the animation can't help but have a frantic choppyness that some might find hard to get into. Hense the one point reduction.
But it's also a loveletter to all those who've build stuff and played with LEGO, with lots of clever jabs at movie clichés, and an underlying message of letting your unique creativity shine by abandoning instructions that'll really pull at your heartstrings. This movie glances over it's products on sale with such deliberate dismissiveness, it understands it needn't plug a product that sold itself just great for decades. The emphasys was placed on fun and creativity where it belonged, and I think the filmmakers avoided the pitfall of losing the audiences respect with overt commercialism with style.

Something eighties spaceguy Benny, who's yearning to build a spaceship SPACESHIP SPACESHIP!!!, had a worn out decall and (sure enough) that crack across the chin in his helmet, so that gave me a nostalgasm. Also: secretly this is the best movie with Batman in it... ever.

Final verdict: everything is awesome!
No religion for me thank you very much; I 'm full of shit enough as it is.

Being flabbergasted about existence never made anyone disappear in a poof of flabbergas, so nevermind why we're here. We ARE here.

"The enemy" 3,5/10  The most fucked up film I saw in a while. 3,5 because of the boob shots :) Jake Gyylenhaal didn't help.

https://archive.org/details/Sobaka Dark, low budget, black and white film. Acting isn't great, plot takes awhile to develop, but well worth watching.

https://archive.org/details/Oh_Mr.Porter_1937 Maybe one of the funniest old Brit films you'll ever watch. Will Hay was flat out funny as hell and probably a lot of the inspiration for Monty Python.
If you watch this and don't think it's funny there's something wrong with you.

SGOS

Edge of Tomorrow 9/10  Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise

Surprisingly good Science Fiction movie that struck me as refreshingly unique.  The plot seemed new, but in thinking about it on the way home, I've seen variations of it once or twice, although not done as well as this movie, in my opinion.  I almost passed on this one, because the coming attractions left me flat.  Compared to today's cookie cutter formula for "big machines fighting aliens"  movies, this one had an entirely new problem to overcome.  They still had to figure out how to bash the Hell out of the enemy with their futuristic machines, but that was truly a secondary issue dwarfed by a much bigger problem, which I won't give away.
