Yeah its not doing it any favours, but to me it felt that having a great guy like Jason Momoa as aquaman was one of the better casting choices in this whole DC setup, and would like to see them at least do something with it.

I did like him in the JLU series and in the 90s comics, since he got a pretty good redesign, which these film makers seemed to realise was the better look.

Especially looking at the Atlantis part... it's a movie I know I'm going to be at least stoned out of my mind for, so I look forward to those scenes already. But in terms of a sober film... meh? Nothing about it got me hyped.

Also, Dr. Strange and hallucinogens? MMMMMMMMGHHH

Quote from: Munch on July 21, 2018, 08:43:55 AMThe biggest cringe for me however, since in the comics civil war event, which had a longer and more developed reason for their being two sides, iron mans pro registration side, which forced super heroes to become slaves to the government and give up their secret identities (which spiderman did on to the media resulting in the kingpin shooting aunt may and leading to One More Day), what the biggest cringefest for me in that entire series, was how the marvel editors concluded, that the pro registration.. was the 'right side', the correct side to be on.
To be honest, it definitely was the right side to be on.  Some D-list supers got in a fight, gigantic explosion, bunch of dead kids.

Just think for a second about random supers fighting near your house, near your kid's school, etc.  People get caught in the crossfire.  Now did the "good" super have a perfectly valid, perhaps even noble reason to fight?  Probably, maybe.  Maybe he was trying to save the world.  Maybe he was trying to protect someone else.  Maybe it was one of those horrible misunderstandings that tragically leads to a good VS good fight.  Maybe it's a Deadpool-type fight and there is no real reason.  Who knows?  All you really know is that some guy in a speedo with wings on his feet just threw a trident through the car next to you and some green beefcake tangling with a military convoy is the reason I-95 has 6 hour delay while you're frantically trying to take your dad to the hospital for a heart attack.

There comes a point in which people stop giving a shit about why these fights are happening and simply want them to stop.  War weariness.  Super weariness.  Almost end of the world every week weariness.

Point is, some whackjob puts on a bandana and goes full auto down 4th and Main for maybe justifiable reasons.  Why shouldn't people want to rein in this sort of vigilantism?  Why shouldn't these people be accountable to some higher authority?  Why should people be allowed to take the law into their own hands?

Obviously, neither the pro and the anti-registration sides conducted themselves well (putting it mildly) and perhaps there should have been some sort of compromise with supers who want to keep a secret identity out of fear of retribution against their families and to protect people's civil liberties, etc.  We can nitpick the particulars all day but the general idea of the pro-registration side was very clearly in the right.

I mean FFS, this is a world with The Punisher.  'Nuff said.

I grew up on musicals, Oliver (1968), Mary Poppins, Meet Me in St. Louis, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, The Sound of Music, The Wizard of Oz, Singing in the Rain, plus all disney classic musicals. Been to see several play adaptations of them, plus the classic les mis in london.

Kinda feels like a dying art form when even disney doesn't prioritize musicals like they use to in their movies,

That is because mass-philistinism is on the rise.  New Socialist Man (redo of New Communist Man) is on the rise.  Hating all self expression not endorsed by Big Brother.

Ooo, I remember seeing Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory in the theater in its original theatrical run... still one of my favorite movies!

I don't know if you've ever seen it on the big screen -- imagine seeing the paddleboat sequence at full scale at the age of 8.

Round the world and home again
That's the sailor's way
Faster faster, faster faster

There's no earthly way of knowing
Which direction we are going
There's no knowing where we're rowing
Or which way the river's flowing

Is it raining, is it snowing
Is a hurricane aâ€"blowing

Not a speck of light is showing
So the danger must be growing
Are the fires of Hell aâ€"glowing
Is the grisly reaper mowing

Yes, the danger must be growing
For the rowers keep on rowing
And they're certainly not showing
Any signs that they are slowing.
