Sports is a sort of ephemeral shared fiction and doesn't really matter because nothing really matters.  So get out there and win or don't, cause this field is going to be a parking lot in 5 years.

If you think about it, playing sports is basically LARPing, but instead of imaginary names, you have imaginary numbers. And instead of pretending to stab each other with fake swords, you're trying to get a ball to go into a hole of some specific shape, like a rectangle or a basket. Both involve wearing funny looking costumes, acting out a set of agreed upon rules to manipulate numbers to your advantage in competitions against opposing players, and both involve make believing that victory for your team somehow benefits your team's affiliated location. Huzzah! Our team put more balls in holes than the other team did! Glory to Foxboro, even though most of them aren't even from here and were drafted from all around the country! This victory is totally not meaningless!

It gets written down in the sports annals that there was a successful campaign and the party members' contributions to that victory are tracked and they get some experience, maybe go up in rank... oh my god, it actually is an rpg!

It's like Burger King trying to buy out McDonald's.  It's adorable.

Well, this went a different direction than I was expecting. I was expecting him to talk about the corruption surrounding cereal. The way they're marketed to gets with cartoon animals, the way they claim to be "part of a balanced breakfast," despite even the "healthier" alternatives being mostly sugar. But nope. John just wants cereal companies to up their game and get creative. lol

The sports angle is because of Wheaties.  The alternative is claiming that your cereal is so good that kids ought to be willing to commit second-degree burglary and go to jail over it.  Looking at you, cookie crisps.

And I agree, Goths do deserve their own breakfast cereal.

I'm surprised John Oliver didn't cover the bizarre origins of breakfast cereals:

I recall we had to wait for our Cap'n Crunch to soak up some milk otherwise it shredded the roof of our mouths.

Not gonna lie, that's a pretty dope transformer.  Starscream would still try to shoot him in the back, though.

I'm not sure if that's another attempt at Christians trying to make a Christian version of everything or if this was just made as a joke. Seems kinda sacrilegious. lol
