That is the real thing.  Most real problems can't be solved in closed form.  Some of those hard problems can be solved numerally.  But for some of those the algorithm doesn't converge much.

Once upon a time, I think I did give an example of various meanings of "converge".  More and more, hard problems actually show chaos, and that is why they are not closed and not well behaved numerally.  Because the variance of the solution depends very sensitively on the initial conditions (aka butterfly causing a thunderstorm).
