QuotePROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A federal magistrate judge in Rhode Island has recommended that a late Yale professor's family be allowed to sue a disgraced Roman Catholic order over a more than $1 million bequest.

The retired professor, James Boa-Teh Chu, died in 2009. His son Paul Chu says his father was coerced, defrauded and deceived into signing over many of his assets to the Legion of Christ.

The lawsuit filed in Providence federal court says he was led to believe the Legion's founder was saintly, even as the Vatican was investigating serious sexual abuse allegations against him. The Vatican took over the order in 2010.

The Legion asked to dismiss the lawsuit, but a magistrate judge last week recommended it be allowed to continue. A district court judge will have final say.

Admit it. You're secretly green with envy.

The Christian church, in its attitude toward science, shows the mind of a more or less enlightened man of the Thirteenth Century. It no longer believes that the earth is flat, but it is still convinced that prayer can cure after medicine fails.
