QuoteJacque Cousteau is known all through the world. But very few people know, that scientific researches carried out by him and facts of reflection in the Quran of many scientific signs have led him to accept islam;and that he died as a muslim.

It sounds like muslims have been plucking stuff from their asses again.

QuoteJacques-Yves Cousteau died of a heart attack on 25 June 1997 in Paris, aged 87.[12] Despite persistent rumors, encouraged by some Islamic publications and websites, Cousteau did not convert to Islam, and when he died he was buried in a Roman Catholic Christian funeral.[13] He was buried in the family vault at Saint-André-de-Cubzac in France. An homage was paid to him by the city by the inauguration of a "rue du Commandant Cousteau", a street which runs out to his native house, where a commemorative plaque was affixed.

Wikipedia. It ain't any harder than that.

Here is what an honest Muslim has to say about it:
QuoteAssalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah

Alhumdulilah, wa salat wa salam ala rasulilah,

Brothers, I am writing you from the aspect of naseeha, and only wish good for both you and myself.
Allah ta'ala has reminded us that whenever a sinful person comes to us with any news, to verify it, lest we harm people in ignorance. (49:6)

This news piece today claiming Jacques Cousteau becoming Muslim is a long-standing urban legend that was officially debunked more than 2 decades ago, yet has persisted in spite of official denials from both Didier Cerceau of the Cousteau Society and Jacques

Cousteau's own family. I am sending you a link with verifiable references to
hopefully dispel this persistent urban legend once and for all. http://wikiislam.net/wiki/Jacq...
Jacques Cousteau never accepted Islam, was never in his life seen or heard practicing ANY of the outward aspects of Islam, and in 1997 died and was buried in the family vault at Saint-André-de-Cubzac in France- not with Janazah- not as a Muslim, but as a cross-wearing Catholic Christian. It is thus incumbent upon you to immediately remove this embarrassing rumor from your website and print a retraction so that people will not be led into thinking one of two things:

(a) That we are a VERY uncritical, desperate people who will go to any length to claim a following of the famous.

(b) That the rumor is legitimate, and thus persist in propagating a clear falsehood and any associated sins attached to that act.

As a final note, by Allah's mercy we have thousands of famous and influential educators and luminaries who have been guided from the darkness of ignorance to the shining glory of Islam. In the end, we are a people guided by truth and maintained by purity and we do not stand in need of those whom Allah has misguided.
And all praise be to Allah, and may the salat and salam be upon our Messenger Muhammad (saaws), ameen.
wa salam

Islam

There is nothing more frightful than ignorance in action.

But yeah, it sure comes across as a desperate PR move.

Who cares what his religion was. I certainly don't. His religion didn't define him, nor did it stop him from great inventions(SCUBA) and discoveries!
