Well earlier this month the Zetas cartel (the most destructive to date) had to make do with out its leader thanks to the Mexican Marines and I thought it would all call down for a while but sadly that is not the case.

20 to 2 though? That's a pretty damn good ratio for the police, especially if they were jumped.

All thanks to our wonderful failed WOD policies. Nothing turns people into hardened criminals like turning ordinary citizens into criminals to protect corporate profits.

Make it legal and tax the Hell out of it.  Well maybe not meth.  I might have to rethink this.  But if you want more crime, make highly valued commodities illegal.  Gangsters love it.  They've got a whole gangland infrastructure just wanting to bring that kind of stuff to the public, and at very high prices, which they are not taxed on.

Do even meth. Give people good education, good alternatives, and help if they want to kick and the real junk will no longer be interesting soon enough. One of the reasons people get addicted to meth is that it's pushed on them by charismatic drug salesmen and then they're afraid to get help for it.

(I don't know what happens in the US if you go to the government and tell them you use meth and want to kick the habit?)

Many drug addicts just want to get high enough to forget how miserable their lives are.  No one is pushing them into drugs.  (Other than the corporations that make their lives so miserable.)

Most of the time, you're told that there's no room in any rehab facility unless you have lots of money.  We treat our garbage better than we treat our drug addicts.

They'll still not be worse off if meth is legalised. They might even switch to something else because it gives the same/better high with less downsides. (I also have a hard time bringing up pity for people whose lives are so miserable they manage to spend huge amounts of money on drugs instead of fixing their issues.)

I wonder what would happen if we'd do some real research into drugs. See if we can come up with one that gives massive effect at no downsides.

This thread reminds me of a guy I grew up with, a strange dude. He literally believed that drugs made you awesome and that he was better than almost everyone because he had done so many drugs and had so much more "awesome experiences" and has "seen more" than they have. He literally defined himself and other people off of how many drugs they had/had not done. All the stuff he took changed him into an aggressive conspiracy theorist that held a grudge against everyone. I tried talking to his parents, maybe to get him to rehab or a psychologist, but they are co-dependents that want to believe with all their might that their son is a good person. And thus another life was ruined.

Many of them have only one problem - that they can't earn money (except by theft).  So they steal to support their habit, do drugs, can't work due to doing drugs, need more drugs to forget their problem, etc., etc.  (Not that I feel pity for them.)

The downside would be that you can't be productive when you're high.  Even if there's no other downside, it wouldn't change the current situation much.  (The fact that most drugs end up killing the addict isn't the main problem with most drugs, the fact that they get the addict high is the problem.)
