Los Angeles County ambulance crews told to not transport patients with little chance of survival

As one might expect, this refusal to treat turns a small chance of survival into a zero chance of survival.

Imagine having cardiac arrest and getting picked up by an ambulance that won't take you to a hospital.

Or having a medical emergency and languishing outside an emergency room for hours.

This is what Los Angeles County faces as the onslaught of Covid-19 devastates the community -- including those without coronavirus.

"Hospitals are declaring internal disasters and having to open church gyms to serve as hospital units," County Supervisor Hilda Solis said. "Our health care workers are physically and mentally exhausted and sick."

So word to the wise, reschedule that heart attack for later when health care workers aren't overburdened from various deliberate superspreader events (orchestrated by people with access to the best medical care in the country) and general incaution.  Thanks, covidiots.  Couldn't have done it without you.

Additionally, healthcare workers are attempting to stretch their strained oxygen supplies by waiting for patients to dip below 90% oxygen saturation before administering oxygen:

The Covid-19 surge has also led to a shortage of supplemental oxygen, meaning some patients treated by EMS will go without.

"Given the acute need to conserve oxygen, effective immediately, EMS should only administer supplemental oxygen to patients with oxygen saturation below 90%," Los Angeles County EMS said in its memo.

EMS said an oxygen saturation of at least 90% is sufficient to maintain normal circulation of blood to organs and tissues.

With ever-increasing triage and de facto death panel decisions becoming more common, this pandemic has really taken a grim turn, reminiscent of grimdark fiction:

A lot of staff are exhausted. This has been going on for months and is getting worse, not better.

There's only so far you can push people until they break. Even when there isn't a global pandemic, nurses hours are something I wouldn't be able to handle. People really take them for granted, and now they're being pushed to the breaking point on a daily basis, without the space, resources, or the manpower to do what they need to do.

Based on death rates I would think after the health care workers, those with co-morbidity, and the 65 plus are vaccinated, we should continue with age brackets...55-64, then 45-54, and so on. Guessing it will probably just be a free-for-all instead.

Trump Administration Will Recommend Vaccinating All Americans Over 65 now.  It's similar to Biden's plan to vaccinate.  I'm all for vaccinating too.  And my state, Virginia, is now in Phase 1B which includes those over 75.  It's right there in print at Virginia's Department of Health, but no one I know is being given the vaccine, and from what I can piece together, it's because the supplies are not there.  Calls to the department sent my neighbor in circles around a complicated phone tree, and then just cut her off before she could speak to anyone.  There may be information I'm lacking, but I don't know how you can vaccinate more people without the vaccine.  And I'm wondering how changing the policy will speed anything up without the vaccine.
