Just finished take out from Carabas. It was weird because the restaurant is at one of the local malls and the parking lot was practically deserted. 13 cars including me and two other people picking up food. One of the others was a cop. I assume the rest were restaurant employees. I asked if they were getting enough business to keep the doors open. He was doubtful.

A worthy cause, imo.  MTG is great entertainment.

Don't beat yourself up over using free time for leisure, especially during times like these.   Any respite is welcome, drawing a Respite is better still.

agreed. In times like this, stress levels will be high in many people, so just doing whatever you enjoy, whatever helps you escape from the pressures of real life right now is a big benefit.

Wealthy people are buying out entire hotels as they flee major cities for more secluded suburban areas, CNN Travel reports.

Renting out suites, hotels, and holiday homes in remote areas is the latest way wealthy people are trying to skirt the threat of the coronavirus.
Billionaires are chartering superyachts to escape from the outbreak (though not without backlash), while private plane use has seen a spike even as commercial air travel tumbles.

Some wealthy people have started renting hotel rooms, inn lodgings, and resort suits, as they flee major cities to less densely populated areas, CNN Travel reports. But the even more affluent are taking it a step further and reserving entire properties for themselves.

Blantyre Country Resort, a luxury country house hotel in the Berkshires that typically opens in May, is making itself available now to those seeking to reserve the entire property for a small group or a single family. The cost of a buyout? US$38,000 a day.

I know this is nothing new, but will the working class ever learn that the rich are their only true enemy and rise up against them? Find out next time on, "Why the Fuck is this Still a Thing?".

Why COVID-19 is not like the flu.

https://youtu.be/FVIGhz3uwuQ

My mum cut out an article from her fav newspaper a few weeks ago saying how covid19 isn't as bad as the flu which has killed more people.
I don't have the heart to tell her how fucked up such a claim is today, or even was a few weeks ago, when we had no research into this virus and flu is seasonal and has a vaccine for it.

Man derails train in attempt to ram the USNS Mercy, the medical ship that just pulled into LA harbour to house non-Covid 19 patients and try to relieve the stress on the local hospitals, because he believes it was actually there to begin a government takeover.

Great!  Let's throw a little more crazy into the crisis.  Teams of Navy medical personnel are poised to take over the government, and will institute a new nation to be ruled over by Medical Law.  It's the end of democracy as we know it.

Why not use the Naval Base in San Diego just a few miles to the south?  They could attack LA with bombers, fighter jets, and submarines.  There's enough firepower there do the takeover in just a few minutes.  Those navy guys are just sitting around waiting.  This whole thing could be over by 3:00 PM this afternoon.

And we replace one upper class with a new upper class (ie China) ... when will revolutionaries learn that revolution produces lots of dead bodies and never solves the fundamental problem of humanity ... humans.

Cyprus has the greatest lockdown.  You get a license, no more than once a day, to leave your home, and have to put down why, to get the license.  And the Cypriot police are required to make random house checks, and can get a warrant in 30 mins if you don't cooperate ... to check if you are following their government diktat ;-(  Is this worse than Hungary?

In Greece, the government is paralyzed.  They are doing no testing, nothing to bolster the health system.  So where did all the money put into the system go to?  Greece and Cyprus etc ... the government put the health funds into non-health expenditures, that is why their health systems are under-supplied.  Government corruption has negative consequences.

See?  We're doing great.  Nevermind, I looked at Japan's curve by mistake.

Different nations, with inaccurate statistics (total cases/new cases are total BS, because accuracy requires daily testing of whole population).  In effect these are statistical estimates with a non-scientific bias (not political, just not professional random sample).  The total death/new death statistics are better (why I have put emphasis on these).  However there is bias in these, that varies from country to country also.  There is "death with Covid" and "death from Covid" ... and there are biases (see China) on even reporting these.

Of course the infection is significant, the mortality is considerable ... but so is regular flu.  Also old people are supposed to die, of something, in the near future.  The new 15 minute antibody test will clarify who should head to the hospital (has symptoms but is it Covid) and who has already had non-symptomatic Covid (with professional random sample testing to get a good estimate aka at least 10,000 samples).

Italy and Spain are similar, as are Netherlands/Belgium/Germany (on deaths per million).  Switzerland is more like France.  In what way are these similar to China (true stats) or the US?  But of course the ultimate infection is 1/2 of the population, which might already be true, but will be true later this year.  So similar political-economies do match up, otherwise this is apples vs oranges.
