Are the active cases people in hospital?  The fatality rate against all infected, vs fatality rate against people in hospital, are different.  If hospitals fail apart as claimed in Italy and Spain, then the hospital fatality rate does up.
There are most likely a lot of not reported infections, people with either mild symptoms or are asymptomatic. I just think that the reported 2% - 3% is probably only for countries with this under control.

It is OK to be an optimist at times like this.  We won't know the final score until the third wave of this virus cuts thru us, maybe by 12 months from now.  Also, there is the complications of "Cause Of Death" ... usually it is more than one thing.  Do we call one fatality !00% Covid, 50% Covid ...

Ohio's been giving county by county results since the first case in Cuyahoga County (Cleveland).  We're at around 1650 known cases with "only" 29 deaths so far.  As of 2pm today, there have been no new cases since yesterday.  I suppose that won't hold, but that's an optimistic sign, at least.

For the most part, DeWine has done well, with only two major missteps along the way: canceling the primary at the last possible moment without either declaring a new date or vote-by-mail, and closing women's health clinics as "optional" medical care.

Same here.  22 cases in my county, no fatalities so far.  We don't have a lot of people here.  Don't know if any of those folks needed to be hospitalized, but we do have an above average number of retirees here, so must have nursing home patients too.

GUILFORD COUNTY MAKES ONLINE FORM TO REPORT STAY AT HOME VIOLATORS

GREENSBORO, N.C. â€" Guilford County is under a stay at home order. You're only allowed to leave your house for essential reasons. And local leaders want to know if you see businesses violating that order.

They've created an online form to report people and places to be investigated.

Saturday three men were arrested while protesting outside an abortion clinic in Greensboro, while another was given a citation.

According to the Greensboro Police Department, the men are from a religious group called Love Life which is based in Charlotte.

Police say the men traveled from the Charlotte area to stage their protest at the abortion clinic.

A Facebook video shows police trying repeatedly to warn the men to leave and follow the stay at home order. When the men refused, the officers charged them.

Greensboro Police say the men engaged in what's considered non-essential travel under the stay-at-the home act. Police say the group willfully violated the order.

The men are the first in the City of Greensboro to be charged for violating the stay-at-home order.

I go out once a day for drive thru fast food.  Every other day I go out for limited grocery shopping (scavenger hunt).  Haven't been with family (two different trailer  parks) for 8 days.  I can easily continue this for two more weeks.  So I am limiting public exposure, but above zero.  This level is still legal here.

Think it'll be a lot longer then 2 weeks. Your really needing for it to reach its peak first

By that time society will be dead ;-(  Lots of people will be rioting because they need to work, by May 1.  Already in Italy.  I am not in that category, but I am armed, just in case.  The idea that you can suppress the economy for 12 months is nuts.

This is the prophesy of the 60s, Helter Skelter aka Charles Manson.

This pandemic has become a political divide.  Should business take a hit for the good of the country, or should more people die for the good of business?  Remember when Republicans claimed that Universal Health Care would result in death panels?  You know, government created death panels, that would decide the fate of the less fortunate, rather than the trusted insurance companies making that decision for us.  Now our government says, "If you are not willing to die for the good of business, you are a traitor."  Well not the whole government, just the administrative branch.

These are interesting times to watch.  I remember watching an episode of Star Trek years ago, where people would voluntarily report to disintegration chambers when called upon to do so by a bizarre utopian government.  I was quite young, and I thought that society was absurdly stupid, which of course was the whole point of the episode.  Exaggerated to make a point, as good science fiction often does, it made an observation about the dangers of societies run for the self interest of an elite leadership.

Lawyers, TV hosts are better at pandemic management than doctors?  Dr Fauci seems to be more of a bureaucrat than a practicing doctor, to me.  The doctors experimenting with HCQ are making progress.

That is optimistic.  There will be relaxed lockdowns, relaxed travel restrictions, and new waves of infection.  Perhaps in socialist GB, you can keep everyone on the dole for 6 months, the US can't.  Tories are like Labour, but with better class.

"Harvard Researchers Propose "Intermittent" Lockdowns And "Widespread Surveillance" Of Americans To Avoid Critical-Care Capacity" ... can we just keep the universities/colleges closed permanently? ;-)  Do all education on-line.  Current wave of infection in the US ... peak outside of metros in two weeks, peek in metros in 4 weeks.  But this isn't a one time thing.
