More bad news for A.Z.
It seems like I'm missing something that's going on in Europe, or is the World Health Organization missing something?  I keep waiting for either "All clear," or "This stuff is not safe."  But it's as if Europe is waiting for a final word from Utube.

I was poking fun at the recent string of the AZ vaccine being discontinued in several European countries due to several people coming down with rare blood clots.  We're talking 37 out of 17 million vaccinations, roughly equivalent to the odds of getting struck by lightning (1 out of 500,000).  Naturally, it has people spooked.  It's not clear if those incidents are linked to the vaccine, though investigators are looking into it.

Meanwhile, in my neck of the woods, about 1 out of 1,000 people has died from covid.  Officially.  The unofficial number is likely higher.

And the sad reality is that many of those countries stopping the AstraZeneca vaccine are currently experiencing increasing daily cases of covid.

I know. I was going along with it.  While reliable agencies don't believe the blood clot cases are statistically significant and in addition, are unable to identify a connection,  where else do you turn for reliable information?  Utube?

At this point it sounds like one of those things where politicians are paying too much attention to some anti-vaccination group that is out to monkey wrench efforts to slow the spread.  I do understand politicians want to protect themselves from the appearance of a political error, but the bigger emergency is that more people are dying of Covid than blood clots at this point.  Politicians want to be risk free, but nothing is risk free.  Not in this pandemic.  You're best chance is to base policy on scientific statistical data, and not to freeze in the headlights.

Belgium is trying to take over all those astrazeneca vaccines that would otherwise go to waste. By (non-existant) God, I hope they get 'em.

Too bad, maybe.  I just read that some authorizing agency for vaccinations just declared astrazeneca safe for Europe.

Would've been nice, but I'll take solice in knowing they'll be going to more vulnerable people sooner, this way.

No more shots till we get to the bottom of this!

I know this is meant to be funny, but this sort of thing actually happens in the real world. Seriously.
A cynical habit of thought and speech, a readiness to criticise work which the critic himself never tries to perform, an intellectual aloofness which will not accept contact with life’s realities â€" all these are marks, not as the possessor would fain to think, of superiority but of weakness. -TR

We are finally scheduled for our 1st round of shots mid next week....I think I will celebrate with a different kind of shot...I think we have some Tullamore Dew, not bad stuff for the price really.

Apparently the UK method of vaccination may be more effective at stopping the spread, although it doesn't give as much protection as quickly to those who get it.  They are vaccinating as many as possible with one shot, thereby doubling the number of protected.  Apparently, you don't have to get the booster shot in a month, and the booster only boosts the effectiveness by 10%.  The theory is that one shot greatly reduces the carriers, and fewer unvaccinated citizens get the disease.  A graph shows how this compares to the US and other two shooter programs.

QuoteBritain’s approach not only brings immediate benefits, in terms of lives saved; it also reduces the chances of future outbreaks: The fewer people who have Covid, the fewer who can infect somebody else. That’s especially important when more contagious variants are circulating. Worldwide, the number of confirmed new cases has risen 21 percent over the past month.

It is probably too late for the U.S. to change policy and adopt the British approach. Doing so would create widespread confusion and frustration. Still, there are lessons from Britain

I have good news and bad news.

Good news:  1/6 Americans are now fully vaccinated against covid.  Must be nice.

Bad news: Bad behavior in Florida leads to curfew.  Apparently, too many people there were ready to make some bitchin' bad choices.  For real, these people were packed together like plague rats.

I know I joke about physically separating Florida from the rest of the states, but now I'm 100% serious about it.  Wall, Xindi laser, really long trench - I don't care how it happens as long as it happens.

Except that in this case, it isn't Floridians that are the problem. 90% plus of these problem children are kids from other states.

Right.  But they're IN Florida.  Perfect opportunity to trap 'em there.

But California first and then Texas looks worse than Florida. Is there some special situation in Florida or people just don't like the place?

Texas is practically its own country. It's only the Southern part of Texas that's shit. The rest is fine. And if we could get rid of Abbot, we'll be much better. Florida is the place that, after a school shooting that made national news, decided not to even discuss gun control at all, instead choosing to discuss the "dangers of pornography." Florida has such a reputation for craziness, they turned it into a meme with Florida Man. lol

Not to give any of you evil geniuses ideas, but if all the glaciers melted Florida would be completely submerged.
