I went to my doctor today for a routine appointment and he said he is participating in a COVID clinical trial. He will know in two weeks if he was given the vaccine or placebo. If he was given the placebo he will be given the vaccine. I read 42% of Americans are not willing to take a COVID vaccine.
Ugh. Americans never fail to disappoint. We are a deeply stupid and selfish culture. I am really over it.

I won't be taking the vaccine for at least the first couple of months it's available here. I simply do not trust the medical companies to rush a product like that and it not have significant adverse effects.

I know the EU is saying they will likely delay any vaccines as well because of trust issues, so I feel like it's not too unfounded of distrust.

I conduct clinical trials for a living. For what it's worth, I am getting that vaccine the nanosecond it is available to me.

My doctor mentioned his concern is that the vaccine might provide immunity but still allow asymptomatic people to transmit the virus.

I need money to eat.  I'm getting that vaccine shortly after it becomes available.  I'd much rather roll the dice with the vaccine than with the plague.

As the Sanhedrin said, Jesus couldn't even save himself.  Hence the surplus of Pharisees around here ;-)

A couple fact based sources ...

https://vk.ovg.ox.ac.uk/vk/disease-vaccinated-populations

https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2015/02/04/703096/10118656/en/Corrections-Studies-Show-that-Vaccinated-Individuals-Spread-Disease.html

It would appear, in some cases, given the complex reaction of people to a virus or a vaccine, asymptomatic people who have been vaccinated can transmit a virus.  There are of course conspiracy theories regarding vaccination going back to Dr Jenner in the 18th century, including perhaps unmerited concerns about trace chemicals used in the making of vaccines.  The inoculation with a live virus (vs dead virus) has its dangers.  This was clearly stated in 2003 when US troops were inoculated against smallpox and anthrax, but that is a pretty extreme case.

*looks at news headlines*

Some politician is formally being impeached.  Good!  About time we held our leaders accountable for the botched coronavirus response

It's actually some pro-virus plague rats trying to pull a political stunt

*lathers hands with hand sanitizer*

Yeah, that's been in the pipeline here for months, actually.  The (Republican) Speaker of the Ohio House has basically told the wingnuts to go fuck themselves, it's not coming onto *his* floor.  And the (Republican) leader of the Ohio Senate has essentially said if it somehow reaches his side of the state house, it's DOA anyway.

Just a bunch of tiny dicks looking for some political Viagra, and getting a placebo instead.

Good.  I thought for a moment I was living in bizarro world and a bunch of people, even prominent politicians, were just completely crazy and viewed common-sense disease prevention as something deeply objectionable.  Can you imagine?!

We are going to get the Chinese vaccine. What do you think about the differences between new generation vaccines and the old fashioned ones?
