And Trump is determined to get rid of insurance protections for those with ''pre-existing conditions.'' This virus will be such for many years.

Are you talking about devolution of ACA coverage?  Yes, if we went back to "no insurance" if you have "pre-existing conditions" that would save the insurance companies a lot of money ... with modern lab testing, you can just about prove that everyone has some kind of pre-existing condition.

"Teachers "Scared" After All Florida Schools Ordered To Reopen In August"  ... "...it’s clear in communications with our members that educators are scared. They don’t trust politicians to make sure things are safe..." .. why are they trusting politicians to make sure things are safe?  My Ex goes back to teaching Navajos in August.  We can only pray.

"Dr. Fauci Warns Any Protection Provided By COVID-19 Vaccine May Be "Transitory"" ... of course.  Regular flu vaccine is only good for a year.  But I think Dr Death means that a new vaccine for this specific flu, will need booster shots throughout the year.  A very valuable contract, if mandatory and paid for by the governments.

It's like the Perfect Storm.
A cynical habit of thought and speech, a readiness to criticise work which the critic himself never tries to perform, an intellectual aloofness which will not accept contact with life’s realities â€" all these are marks, not as the possessor would fain to think, of superiority but of weakness. -TR

Me:  the lockdown's not going to be that long.  Probably a month.  Two months, tops.

The lockdown:

I suspect this is in regards to a future Covid-19 vaccine? The pharmaceutical companies are already frothing at the mouth of the possible profit.

"Florida Reports Another 10k COVID-19 Cases; NYC Mayor Says Schools Won't Fully Reopen In September" ... why are we no longer talking about moving ventilators to where they are needed?  Of course actual ICU nurses can't be multiplied easily.

"After Sending 1000s Of COVID Patients Into Nursing Homes, New York Blames Deaths On "Infected Staff"" ... the world is at war.  And the first casualty of war is the truth.  I suspect Cuomo was between a rock and a hard place.  There may have been no good choice for NY.  But I do enjoy watching politicians squirm.

The problem with pandemic response is that this was taken as a political problem by politicians.  They could not do otherwise.  Taking care of nursing home staff and nursing home residents wasn't on their radar, we let them burn to convenience ourselves.

OK. But it wasn't for the pandemic, there wouldn't be protests.

Denmark is a lot smaller than the US.  Comparing raw numbers is intellectual failure.  Comparing Denmark with Sweden while correcting for population/refugee differences would be smart.

It is a conspiracy theory, that the Dems won't open schools until Feb so that President Biden can take credit for this great leadership ;-)

Sweden, with United States population, would be at 1852. Still 53,000 less.

Bowling for calamity

QuoteOn July 7, a North Carolina judge ruled that bowling alleys could reopen across the state, effective immediately.

That's despite Governor Roy Cooper's executive order to keep many indoor businesses closed during the pandemic.

They're introducing pretty stringent sanitation rules, like washing the balls after every use (must...resist...joke!), so assuming those rules are actually followed, that's not a problem.  But if the mandatory mask rule is an indication, a lot of people will not follow these rules.  People are going to act just like they did before the pandemic - cause they're not capable of learning or empathy - and bam, we have that many new cases.

Hell, I heard that tomorrow, NC Republicans are going to make a big push to open up bars.  And we all saw how well that worked in Texas.  These people are against every basic precaution to the point that I get the distinct impression that they're actually pro-virus pod people.

NC has been fortunate lately to have not had numbers skyrocket in the past few days like other Southern states have.  On the National Geographic map, you can see a red swathe stretching from Texas to Florida and up to SC.  We don't want to become another Arizona.  Thousands dead, hospitals overloaded, needlessly prolonged economic misery - it's just not a good look.

Apples and oranges.  Move to Sweden for awhile and see if you like it.  That is reality.  Talking about things is not reality.  Comparing Rhode Island with California would be a fail too.
