Evolutionary biologist, Bret Weinstein, chimes in on about intersectionaries (is that a real group?) on how they're creating the very enemy they claim to fight against. A sort of Streisand Effect for white nationalism, which I find worrying.

Are you the new pr126?  (posting youtube)  Gonna get banned if you don't ascribe to U C Berkeley 1965 theory.  People want your 5 sentence personal analysis so they don't have to think for themselves.  And it needs to smell of burnt bra.

White and Black are memes weaponized by CIA and KGB.  They manipulate all humans everywhere thru "narrative control" and that old Star Trek Classic episode.  And mind-control like Star Trek Thalos.  One year they can be pro-White, another year pro-Black.  Like lawyers in civil court, they keep the litigants litigating, whatever it takes, because it pays them well.

Avoid all categorical statements, or be prepared to be manipulated.

The OP, Bret, is a regular college liberal (unlike his brother Eric) ... yes, the bra-burning psychopaths of the 60s, or today, are irrational enough to create a backlash.  He and his wife were professors victimized by the neo-Trotsky-ites at their college.  Anything other than centrism will.  But then neither Left nor Right want compromise, as extremists, they want to identity enemies and jihad them.  They are the spiritual brothers of Palestine vs Israel (a self licking ice-cream cone of hate).

Posting from YouTube wasn't what made pr annoying. It was posting Right Wing propaganda on a constant basis, living in a completely different world than reality, and refusing to learn when corrected. That being said, I watched this video, and I think this guy ironically does not understand the nuance of the situation. Liberals do not consider "whiteness" the problem, unless you're talking about representation in the government, in which case it is a big problem. Other than that, Liberals, being mostly white themselves, do not hate white people, but white supremacy. Same goes for "straight, white, males." They are not the enemy, unless they happen to be against the rights of women, non-whites, or the LGBT+.

Also, I completely disagree about the cause of the recent growth in white nationalists. They grew in America after Trump was elected and gave them legitimacy. Before then, they were in hiding because society generally does not tolerate them. Being more tolerant of bigots is the exact opposite of what we need to do. I'm not saying we go to a Neo-Nazi rally and shoot them down, the way they'd show their lack of tolerance for others, but shining a light on them is what will make them scatter. People are often rational and susceptible to change, which is why atheism has been on the rise ever since the internet gave us a wide access to free information. People are also emotional, and tribalistic, but there's not much that can be done to fix that.

Oppression as defined by the Right: "You have to share your toys."

Oppression as defined by the Left: "Get out of my house!" "You're going to Hell!" "I know what you are better than you do!" "You're disgusting and unnatural!" "DIE DIE DIE!!!"

"Whiteness" is no more a "problem" than blackness or yellowness or redness is.  First, all those slight skin colors were the evolutionary responses to sunlight where they lived.  Second, skin color seems more related to where people lived, the resources available to them, and wealth.  Those relate to cultural development and that relates to tech development.

I think the solution is to spread tech everywhere and bring everyone to a similar level of life, education, and opportunity.  Those who have more have to give more.

Correct, but a match between expectations and abundance.  People who don't know much, don't demand much.  But if they know much, they do demand much, and can't see why it isn't better distributed.  This is the notion that with sufficient consumerism, we can avoid dealing with our very real differences.

Do you realize that is the basis of socialism?

Socialism = as defined here = progress and everything good.  No, I just call it consumerism.  Not all words are equal, except in 1984.

I don't think socialism especially or necessarily = progress.  Almost any political system CAN work if used properly.  A good Consitutional Monarchy that could work, ans could Communism.  I personally suspect Democratic Social Capitalism is the best blend.  But what matters most is who gets to run the government.  If "The People" control it, then by definition, it is satisfactory to them.  If not, the system doesn't matter.  No theory of Government will work long without popular support.

The US doesn't even have the same system of government that was originally described in the Constitution.  The Founding Fathers (bless their sexist souls) did not imagine political parties, for example.  And they expected the elites (being both educated and shareholders) would (naturally) choose the best leaders among themselves.

That didn't last long, did it?

But any good set of rules has loopholes.  And we have been using those to adjust to history ever since.  For one thing, that's why the Supreme Court matters.  If it was all just strict construction, there would be no national military force, slavery would exist, women and men who owned no land culdn't vote, etc.

So, whenever I see a debate about systems of government, I always look for the assumptions that aren't true.

When I try to define words my way, I get complaints, when you do it, you are a God.  Ironic.

99% of all problems is that people don't share a common language.  The meanings of words depend not their individual experience, not on some dictionary.  This can be a good thing, because clear communication can lead to violence.

Capitalism = BS
Socialism = BS
Communism = BS
Fascism = BS
Conservativism = BS
Liberalism = BS ....

The author of the book the movie was based on ... was French.  This is how the French view us.  Politics itself is a French word.

I am no god, Baruch.  I merely try to explain my thoughts the best I can, as we all do.  Yes, I am reasonably talented with words.  We all have skills.  When I first came here a few years ago, I was amazed at your linguistic knowledge, religious knowledge, and ability to present arguments that were difficult to refute.  I sometimes struggled for an hour to reply to a single post from you.

People like you are rare and I have been pleased to engage you in discussions the past few years.  You have enlarged my life.  A good challenge to the mind is valuable and a pleasure.

Please to not feel angry at me, forum friend and fellow debater.

But (there is always a "but" right? ), The word "politics" came to us from Greek politikos, from politΔ“s β€˜citizen’, from polis β€˜city’.  It's not French; it's Greek .

I just HAD to say that, LOL!

Please have a good day.  You deserve it...

I am not here to evangelize.  Not here to seize power.  Not even here to argue (I don't count coup).  Just to hang out with interesting people.

My theory of photography (and posts) ... if you take enough pictures (make enough posts) a few of them will look artistic.

The French constructed "politique" from the Greek.  We didn't get it directly from the Greek, but from the French.  It had to do with complaints against commoners working under the French King.  Of course the problem then was ... the King spent too much money (including on the Americans) ... and the French treasury was accused of inefficiency and mismanagement.  But the nobility and the church weren't paying any taxes.  So the French politicians had to try to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, but the odds were against them.  Revolution resulted.

I have a few of those Livre in my coin collection.  And the subsequent Revolution.  To be followed by Napoleon.

Yes, try demogogic policy to buy votes .. it works until it doesn't.  As PM Thatcher said ...

"The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money."

"There is no such thing as society: there are individual men and women, and there are families."

Of course we got it from the Greeks.  "Politikos" is Greek.  The use of it later in very slightly different structure is fine, but derivitive.  Even the Romans didn't bother to change it much.
