I see you have posted yet another generally meaningless question no one else wants to touch.  Allow me, I'm up late and bored...

I am pro-Western, but anti-narrow-mindedness.  Yet we are very different.  I read the article.  The author assumes that all other cultures have rich heritages of tolerant thought but that Western Democracies have none.  That is becoming the new trite claim these days and I disagree.

If one examines the actions of ALMOST all non-western governments and the people who live in those places, you will see routine cruelty, sexism, and negative reactions to all minority groups.  Indeed, it is difficult to find a non-Western nation where minority groups of any definition are not massacred, suppressed, marginalized, or just outright jailed or killed at whim. 

I don't feel a great need to go on about this at length about something rather obvious, so I invite you to tell me what non-Western Democracy nation you hold up as an ideal to support your claim.

Every situation/society is different.  Because I live in and am from the West, I will defend that.  But not because it is übermensch.

Philosophies do not necessary lead to higher degree of consciousness.

In Greek philosophy means love for wisdom or lover of wisdom but as far as these many theories lack in a practical method of turning theory into practical results then philosophers get nowhere and if they persist into go along the path of only theory then they even lose their minds into a world of dogmas.

It doesn't really matter whether these philosophies originate from west or east because they all can be good or bad according the effort that people put into their awareness towards a goal to achieve.

And a goal can not possibly be into the lower form of evolution such as the material world but it must be aiming towards the highest form of evolution.

A philosophy that lack this always end up (down) into a world of dogmas.

One classical example of what I am talking about I saw in my visit in Bali.
In Bali most people are saying that they are Hindus.
Hinduism is a distortion of what Shiva and Krishna were teaching but in Bali this distortion become a lot more distorted so the original philosophy has lost almost everything and now it has become the opposite of what it was in the beginning.

Devils never existed in Shiva and Krishna philosophy but now in Bali is all about devil creatures.
