Judge overturns NC abortion ban

QuoteA U.S. federal court struck down North Carolina’s decades-old ban on abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy, saying any “week- or event-specific” abortion ban is unconstitutional.

The law, which took effect in 1973, only allowed an abortion after 20 weeks in the case of a medical emergency. Abortion-rights groups sued in 2016 after the health exception was further narrowed.

QuoteCiting U.S. Supreme Court precedent, Osteen wrote “a state is never allowed to prohibit any swath of pre-viability abortions outright, no matter how strenuously it may believe that such a ban is in the best interests of its citizens or how minimal it may find the burden to women seeking an abortion.”

QuoteThe ruling appeared to thwart a bill brought by Republican lawmakers in North Carolina earlier this year that would have banned abortions after 13 weeks.

At 13 weeks, the embryo is about as big as a lemon.  Just fyi.

Many women don't even know they're pregnant at 13 weeks!

Isn't it a homocide to kill a newborn baby? so is to abort an embryo: this is the claim of the opposition to abortion. But i do not agree with them, to some extent at least...

If that were so, then the pro-life people should consider it a moral imperative to encourage birth control and family planning to ensure that abortion is rarely sought after in the first place.

Additionally, they would care deeply about the welfare of kids as well as "protecting the unborn".

Except for false pregnancies.  Famously Queen Mary (sister of Elizabeth) suffered from a false pregnancy.  And other medical conditions can stop periods or otherwise modify them.  Women are very complicated and endocrinological individual.  With endometriosis, the period is even outside the womb in the surrounding organs.

No ... presently there is a movement to allow late term abortion and even infanticide in the US ;-(  Early term abortion (after confirmation of course) is a reasonable choice a woman can make with the consultation of a medical specialist.  After that, with a viable pregnancy, then it is not only an ethical and moral concern, but technically the embryo has citizenship (if in the US regardless of parent's nationality).  Otherwise we can start killing the elderly, who are far more a burden than unwanted infants (who if healthy are very adoptable).

And yes, we can take care of all the Democrats, as infants ... to show that there is equal concern ;-)  Ever hear of adult infantilism (sex fetish)?

An essentially unformed embryo is not a "baby".  It is a blob of semi-differentiated cells FAR less self-existing than a shrimp.  And I eat shrimp without a second thought.  If you think that a human embryo is just a small complete human growing inside the mother, you should study up on that.  An unaware blob of cells is just an unaware blob of cells.

Depends on the time since conception.  Technically, to some people, you and I are just a blob, that they are free to abort.  But then that would be fascist/communist.

I didn't realize that considered yourself a pre-born blob of undifferentiated cells.    But I certainly won't argue against you having the right to that opinion.  I sometimes agree with you about your opinion of yourself.

A lot of women aren't regular.

It's not remotely that simple.
