And before Nietzsche, Rousseau and Voltaire!  Actually Nietzsche didn't directly foreshadow Naziism, his sister did.  She promoted his legacy for her own twisted purposes, and Hitler used her promotion for his own hipness.  Much of Nietzsche is neo-pagan ... he was a philo-greek.  Hitler was neo-pagan thru Wagner.  So there is an overlapping of temperaments.  Hitler saw himself as the fulfillment of the uber-mensch prophesy.

Your choice of material is ironic.  Not just because Nietzsche is seen as proto-Nazi, but like Rousseau/Voltaire was anti-semtic.

You can't defeat "know nothing" progressivism without a proper defense of tradition (not regressivism).

There are great philosophers, thinkers, debaters like Sir Roger Scruton, Jonathan Haidt, Jordan Peterson, Dinesh D'Souza, or the late Christopher Hitchens, Christina Hoff Sommers, Janice Fiamengo, Gad Saad, Steven Pinker, etc.

Are there people of this caliber on the left, or are there only wreckers of western civilization?

Tear down the existing social order and replace it with what?
Socialism? Did it ever work? Anywhere?

Also Richard Hitchens ;-)

There have always been avant guard on the highway to nowhere.  Appreciating tradition has been increasingly out of favor for 500 years now.  Try modern acid rock vs classic music?  Comparison?

Peasant revolts become urban revolts.  Civilization and its discontents.  People will always want more than they can get, and object to oppressive pushback by those who have more.  See any Western society since Athens and Rome.

I don't know if I would call any of them great philosophers or thinkers, particularly in a historical context. The best amongst them would be Hitchens, and even he will be essentially forgotten within the next... 10 years at best, I would say.

And no, that has nothing to do with their political beliefs... I can't particularly think of any "leftist" thinkers who will be relevant in that time frame either... Noam Chomsky perhaps would be one of the most influential thinkers of this era I can think of, but even then outside of intelligentsia he is pretty irrelevant anyways.

QuoteAre there people of this caliber on the left, or are there only wreckers of western civilization?

Probably, but again even if there are... that doesn't really say much because the caliber you are listing is pretty lackluster. You could maybe throw George Carlin in there, or Jon Stewart... though I wouldn't say either really developed any new philosophies but rather just repackaged them and presented them in a way that was easy to transmit (which there is nothing wrong with).

Yep. The West. The thing you seem to hate so much, given you never shut up about how terrible it is.

The West ... led by the nose by faux Jewish communists?  Or faux Jewish capitalists?  You decide!

The West stands for Leftist activism, gays, bad rock music, drugs, atheism ... generally anything from the 60s that can be described as sociopathic?  Really??

The majority aren't like that, never have been, never will be.  Most aren't Left or Right, most aren't activist, most have good taste in music, don't do extreme drugs, are somewhat spiritual ... and consider the 60s as a bad acid trip.  Most in fact are too conformist to be sociopathic.

Are you sure you don't worship John Lennon and other such people as pagan deities?  You missed your opportunity to be a Hare Krishna at the airport.

No, the West (at least in principle) stands for liberty, equality, fraternity. While I do believe pr believes in liberty (at least, for people he agrees with) he has proven time and time again that equality and fraternity are two things he is uncompromisingly against.

Equality or equal outcome?

We are not clones. Each human is an individual with different qualities, aspirations, ideas.
We cannot all be the same.

I do not belong to a herd.

A French motto?

Those feminists who scream for equality should be asked what rights they had and now lost since November 2016?

Or for that matter, what rights Americans had, that has been revoked by law after November 2016?
