And as the government becomes more tyrannical .. sharpen the guillotine.

"I would rather force people to function rationally.  I know, stupid wish..." ... yes, stupid.  Are you Nazi socialist or Stalin socialist?  Don't answer, I don't want the Deep State to hunt you down during the culling times.

On some level, you want to sympathize with your fellow humans and their concern at automation being introduced in their lives, and then you remember that they are behaving in a way that will make the government pass a law to make self-driving cars manditory so that morons like them are not behind the wheel ever again.

See this is what they call ... secular anti-humanism.  I want y'all replaced with robots first, since you think it is cool.

I notice that GSOgymrat didn't actually say anything himself in this post...

It's a joke.

For the record, I hope self-driving cars will be perfected because then everyone won't feel the need to own their own car, which will reduce consumption of resources. It should also be safer for riders and pedestrians. Traffic will also be greatly improved as these vehicles will communicate. It will allow riders to do other tasks. In the short term, transitioning to self-driving vehicles will eliminate jobs but in the long term it should  benefit everyone. If I was an adolescent I would think twice about pursuing a career in driving trucks and cars.

One of their quotables was:  "They scare me... I don’t think any amount of technology can replace the human decision-making process."  This from people whose idea of a good time is wrecking someone else's car.

Just wait until self-driving cars win the demolition derby! Will that win over the Luddites?

Drivers in the US routinely harass bicyclists and drive them off the road so I too am not surprised they would do the same to self-driving cars.

I had a friend who routinely rode his bike to work, weather permitting, and even in the rain if the weather turned. He had been hit 3 times. The third time was a "charm", and he was killed. :( It was initially deemed an accident, but as new evidence surfaced, murder charges were filed against the driver in the third incident. Another friend got pretty seriously injured riding in the same area. I wonder if it was the same guy. I got hit a couple of years ago (hit and run) but fortunately the jackass just hit the end of the handlebar, about 1/2" from my hand. I do not ride the streets of my city on a bike, as a result.

Careless (or deliberately angry) car drivers should be punished and charged appropriately.  Death by car is a serious problem.

But it is not all one-sided.  As a carpool passenger in Washington DC, I used to amuse myself by watching the bicyclists to try to find ANY who obeyed the rules of the road.  I never, and I mean not ONCE, ever saw a bicyclist obey the traffic laws.

They wanted things both ways.  "vehicles" when it suited them to "own" a traffic lane (at below the minimum speed I will add) but as "not-cars" when it suited them to zip between cars to a traffic light, use the sidewalk (scattering pedestrians at high speed and circling around traffic lights), and going on as if they had no responsibilities.

I once saw a car in normal stopped traffic blow a radiator hose.  When the driver (quite reasonably) opened his door to get out to see what the problem was, a bicyclist crashed into it (ignoring the traffic lanes AND obviously intending to run the red light) and was seriously injured.

Some drivers (pissed off by the damn fool non-law-abiding cyclists) actually got out and cheered.  And then called the medics for assistance.

Very sorry about your friend. I try to stick to the bike trails.

As car driver in the city, I tried to stay very aware of bicyclists.  I knew they would not do well in any confrontation with a car.  I fully support bike lanes and trails.

But I also note that pedestrians dislike cyclists about as much as cyclist hate cars.

When I ride a bike around traffic I stay on the sidewalk...fuck the law, I'll take the ticket. Tell the judge, be happy I can pay the fine, ride in the road and you have to pay for my hospice.

Quite reasonable...  But try not to run over over the tourists.

Recently the city widened the road outside my neighborhood to four lanes with sidewalks on both sides. I contact the police department to see if it is legal to ride a bicycle on this sidewalk and they weren't sure! It's a 50 mph road, few people use the sidewalk and now ride it to go to the gym. Cops have driven past me so I guess it's okay.
