I'm a big fan of Olaf Stapledon, he wrote some really deep stuff. I especially liked Sirius, about a very intelligent dog.

So, read any Chalker?

Nope, but watched on repeat shows like the incredible hulk, the Jetsons, mork and Mindy, the bionic woman and several others. Also while became a fan of comics in the late 80s I collected a lot of comics from the 70s

You would love Chalker.  He turns men into women, women into men, and plays games with changing species!

I would initially suggest his "Well Of Soul's" series  (see at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Well_World_series).

Yes.  Chalker is great.  But it depends on who you are as to why you would like him.  YOU would love him because some of his characters are meaner inside and more long-sufferring than you.  Munch would like him, because he gender-switches his characters routinely.  And some of the big boys are real hunks.  Even if they were originally Earthly women.  Or maybe even other species.

Forgive me describing it, I feel like I'm on a roll here, and sometimes mentioning an obsession is more fun than debating theism....

The Well-World is a gigantic planet-sized computer that was built by ancient beings tired of immortality.  It is divided into large hexes of varying degrees of tech.  The idea was to repopulate the universe with new ideas of species t see where they went wrong.  They went into the hexes randomly and populated the universe.

But they left behind 3 things.  The 1st are holes that bring new random individuals (their descendants)  to the Well-World.  The 2nd is a reset switch that literally restarts the whole universe.  The 3rd is a being to pull the switch.

The story is partly about the insanity and skills that develop in the switch-puller, the concept of the Well-World, and the Beings who were left behind as the last batch.

Chalker dreams up the strangest societies you can imagine.  And any Being that trips the holes ends up at Well-World and is thrown into a whole new species.

Hurray, yesterday you were a male Earthian and today you are a 20' long female reptilian in heat...  Or vice versa.  No spoilers here other than the changes being possible.

Find them.  Read them...

So you like the modern storytelling which we don't dare call by its true name ... mythology?  Nothing wrong with that.  I prefer old stories retold.  Just a personal preference, not something I would decapitate tourists over.  What I want (and won't get) is for people to be self aware, and call a (card suit) a (card suit).  We can avoid so much crap, if we are truthful to our selfs and to others, regardless of what that truth entails.

Please, I am not suggesting you add a picture of yourself in the "user pictures" section of you in "Furry" mode.  In homage ...

Lycanthropy with a positive spin.

But it is Egyptian pagan, as well as witchery (familiars).

Personally in that genre, I prefer Thoth, the Ibis guy, who invented writing.

Sci-fi is admittedly known-false.  Mythology was once believed as true.
