Meditating Buddhist monk killed in India leopard attack

If only we could get the jesus freaks to walk into the forest!

The Christian church, in its attitude toward science, shows the mind of a more or less enlightened man of the Thirteenth Century. It no longer believes that the earth is flat, but it is still convinced that prayer can cure after medicine fails.

In summary:

* Protected forest sanctuary for big cats
* Monks ignored warnings from local officials about venturing too far in the forest
* A monk attacked and killed by a big cat

Definitely a highly avoidable death.

Kind of like going to a protected island to tell a group of primitive hunter/gatherers about "jesus" and getting your ass shot full of arrows, huh?  I bet the leopard was less interested in Buddha than the tribesmen were in jesus!

Score one for the leopards.

Famously, in the Jataka tales of Buddha's prior incarnations, in a prior incarnation, that man fed himself to a starving mother tiger.  Those values, are not Western.

Maybe we could send them all to North Sentinel Island, where the natives know how to deal with them.

Could we airdrop a big supply of arrows, first?

Does this qualify for a Darwin award?
I kind of feel like it Should.

35.  Could have had kids.  It doesn't count if you already have kids, IIRC.

Maybe the kids will learn from the bad example?  It happens on occasion.
