People are having less sex
« on: November 13, 2018, 05:05:49 PM »
Polls indicate people, especially young people, are having less sex. The teen birth rate is the lowest since 1940, which I think is real progress. There seem to be several factors contributing to the reduction in sex. I think the video is accurate that the internet has made it so easy to gratify social and sexual needs that there is far less incentive to go out into the real world to satiate these desires. No matter what your sexual orientation, access to sexual partners has never been easier, so the decline isn't due to lack of availability. One factor the video didn't mention is that as the Baby Boomers age they are probably reporting having sex less frequently.

So, people today like knowing people, just not in the biblical sense?

That works for me.

Interesting, and rather hard to believe.

maybe its because we're more tolerant of sex, that it makes it lose its edge, the thrill of it, and so people look to other things to be more risqué.

It could also just be how the free and easy access to online porn makes people have less draw to the actual stuff since its at the push of the button. I remember the first time I watched a gay orgy, it was a lot of hot beefed up guys and back then, in my early 20s, wanted to be part of something like that.
When I did actually join in a real life orgy (had protection), it wasn't quite the experience as seen in that video, was a lot of tripping over people and .. well won't go into the details but just wanted as fun as how it was in the videos.

It could just be how so much we see now for free online has desensitised us to the real stuff.

Yes, when it comes to sex there are some things best left to fantasy.

Fantasy is the only way to have really safe sex.

The video mentioned cell phones playing a role in a reduction in sex, and it kind of resonates with me, while at the same time I want to question the validity of that speculation.  I can't remember that the video claimed it as a fact.  Given the natural drive toward sex, which dominated most of my early years, even when I wasn't having it, it's hard for me to believe that modern technology could interrupt it.  Of course we are talking about a slow down, not a complete elimination.

It makes more sense to me that the stress of modern day, and the fast changing pace, could be stressful enough to play a role.  I think it's accepted as fact now that stress is an inhibitor.  OK, I think cell phones as a component of technology that lead to stress by providing fake news and internet forums with negative intruders and a severely divided nation dealing with internal conflict on a daily basis, may play a small role.  But cell phones?  Maybe as a symbol of our fast changing society.

But yet, I watch people with their smart phones, and some of them are addicted, and I don't mean addiction in a positive way as used to describe games.  I mean addiction as in life wrecking alcoholism or drug dependency.  I see people (some people) controlled by their phones.  I'm sure they believe they are the ones controlling the phones, just as alcoholics often believe they drink by choice.

A few years ago, my sister in Chicago, took me to the new downtown Apple store in an architecturally stunning modern building opening to the river walk along the Chicago River.  The place was big, making a statement about the world of Apple.  While apple makes all kinds of things, 90% of the items on display were hundreds of iPhones covering the walls.  Laptops and iPods were given enough space indicating their "token" status in the market, just enough to imply that Apple was more than phones, if just a little bit.

There were maybe 50 people in the store, which was all one big room with modern seating and tables for people to congregate.  It reminded me of a library that could have come out of the movie, A Clockwork Orange.  People were coming together spending hours fiddling with their phones, but not talking to anyone.  It was a place where everyone could come together, in order to be apart.  It was surreal, and I wouldn't go so far as to say these people were suffering some mental disorder, but I couldn't help but feel that something was fundamentally wrong in what I was looking at.  No one was engaging others, which is the first step toward having sex.  How do these people actually get it going?

Here is a statistic I find baffling: one in ten people surveyed say they check their phone during sex according to researchers at the University of Virginia and the University of British Columbia. Honestly, I would be insulted if that happened to me, although I admit I'm annoyed if someone answers a phone during a meal.

Many different causes at work I guess.

First of all, STDs have multiplied like crazy. And people know about it now. There is a powerful fear of that.

This also a result of so called gender wars of self help generations who thinks they have solved how society and gender works, lol. Young men and women -mostly men- spending most of their time in social media with this bullshit and having their sexual needs satisfied by triggering each other and by spewing mutual hatred. Geting turned on by hatred, get agitated and then masturbate.

This used to bother me before it became clear where it is heading, now I support it. Because this is one of the new ways of natural selection as I see it. [Along with movements like anti-vaccination.] And it is also something needed to be consumed. If you are stupid enough to declare half of the population responsible from everything wrong in your life and on the planet, claim that you don't care about it at all while arranging all your life around that gender and whine/cry about the relationships you had or can't have, may be it is much better that you have less sex. Lowers the possibility of you breeding.

It's pretty widely spread, they are a sub class of the society almost in every country now. I have spent a lot of time reading multiple versions in Turkish and English, talked several of these young men and a few women. These people are stupid. I am not saying this word as a casual insult. They are not ignorant; the concept of ignorance doesn't cover this. This is self help.

Self help is the cancer and the real religion of the century. Any kind of life couching, angel couching, quantum healing sending energy, reiki, red pill, blue pill, black pill, fuck pill, hemoepathy... they are all the same bullshit.

And young generations are shaping their personal relationships, social expectations, their personality, success/failure on the notions based on these...what ever you call them.

It's going to get much worse. They will be a rise in suicide rates among young people. Because these trends have NO response, provision, reward...you name it, repayment in the real world. So people living in these delusional worlds, get more frustrated as groups at the time goes by.

It is a new form of addiction to begin with. It's all about being belonged to a group, feeling a fake sense of self realisation, celebrate victimhoods and not to mention making certain type of sharlatans rich.

You can get a tired wrist with fantasy sex ;-)

Power is the ultimate aphrodisiac.  So the powerless masses are losing interest.  And the overpowered elite must be blue balled all day long.

Now that's the ultimate in "casual sex."  I always thought that term was an oxymoron until now.

Lol, what kind of sex is not casual? I am asking seriously.

Doesn't matter if it is a fuck buddy, a partner you are living with or a one night stand. You don't plan when to have sex or when not to. It just happens, when it happens.

If it is meant having sex with anyone you could at any time by casual; random I doubt that is about satisfying your sexual need. Definitely wouldn't be satisfying.

Did you happened to watch Contrapoints' video on incels? I think she did a brilliant job describing the dynamics of this online community. The internet brings like-minded people together and reinforces their beliefs, sometimes with terrible consequences.

Thank you for sharing it. She is brilliant.

Don't mind my usual high midichlorian manner. It's not just incels. It's the whole thing. It's bad.
