Do you see any similarity to USA 2016 election results?

"Elections results are in and Jair Bolsonaro crushes the competition with over 55% of the vote. The “far right” candidate we all wanted. It is time to make Brazil Great Again. "

I do see a similarity. Horrible people were elected leaders and understandably, a hefty population was upset

Looks like the majority of Brazilians had enough of the socialist paradise.
They want a free market economy without corruption.

A basket of deplorables?

Leftist guerrillas overthrow a government and put the regime supporters into death camps ... the once and future result.  People are just horrible.  Don't  worry with a one party system, with only one candidate per office, voting is easy.

I predict that neither the people of Brazil, nor the US, nor GB will get what they want ... with populism or elitism (communist cadre leading the revolution), which have nothing to do with it.  The Establishment plays walnut shells with the dried pea, and people are fooled every time.

I know better than to come back just to get involved in this, but I'm going to do so anyways...

We may disagree politically, essentially on everything, PR... but even at what I consider your most bigoted and hateful moments you do often have some shred of truth and a serious issue buried underneath what you are saying that, if you would offer even a inch of compromise in being so hateful I might actually be interested in discussing.

But on this... you are just... objectively wrong.

You are singing praise for someone who says the previous dictators didn't kill enough people who disagreed with them politically (that they shoulda killed about 30,000 more people). You are celebrating that a man who told another senator that he would rape her if she wasn't so ugly and then kept on asking her to slap him so he could beat the shit out of her. You are happy that a man who is backed by Christian fundamentalists, who has called for violence against the LGBT+ and "forceful" conversion of them, who has repeatedly demeaned women and thinks they should have a much more "Biblical" place in society. You cheer for a man who wants to bring back torture, and who just yesterday/today said that the indigenous Brasilians should not have any special privileges or land set aside for them. You root for a man who thinks logging companies and cattle industries should be given carte blanc to cut down the Amazon, the largest forest in the world with a massive amount of biodiversity that benefits all of mankind and is the largest carbon sink in the world, which is very important if you are concerned about there being too much carbon in the atmosphere causing global temperatures to rise.

Why? All because he "isn't a socialist", because he is "sticking it to the left"... even though Brasil was never a Socialist country, and has been one of the most capitalist countries in Latin America for decades.

You are literally supporting someone who wants to bring back dictatorship to Brasil, who is supported by religious fundamentalists, because you want to stick it to people you believe are destroying Western ideals. I have asked you at least 5 times now if you support a religious fundamentalist dictator if they agree with your political ideology, and at least 5 times now you have avoided the question or made excuses for him... and now you have made a thread singing his praise.

I'm sorry dude, but how in even the slightest fuck can you claim to be for protecting Western ideology and culture when this is literally the very antithesis of everything Western culture and ideology stands for?

Before the just muted socialist regime ... Brazil was a military dictatorship for a long time (1964 - 1985).  Think Argentina.  S America in general and Brazil in particular is very diverse.  One can't generalize from European or American politics, which is what we would do here.  UK hasn't been a military dictatorship since Oliver Cromwell.  The US never was (except in South during Reconstruction).

My question is ... why are non-citizens of country X all panties in a wad over elections in country X?  I consider GB to be disposable worst case (say if they go all 1984 ... though I would hope domestically it would eventually turn over like V for Vengeance).  Churchill was prepared to go it alone, even if the US never came in (the Empire still existed).

Current Marxism is Menshevik.  International, not nationalist like the Bolsheviks.  Basically the ghost of Trotsky.  Would Trotsky, given the chance, kill as many people as Stalin?  We will never know.   He was Jewish, not Georgian, so that was in his favor ;-)  One of my problems with Marxism and other political science is they all over-generalize to include all of humanity, and are teleological (aka Aristotelian) in their progress or regress.

I'll agree with Shiranu.

His social and political standing is dangerous, the guy is an out and out homophobe for one thing and thats just one of the problems with him.

One of the bigger long term issues however is how he wants to push into the Brazilian rain-forest, destroying animal species and having a negative impact on the environment more so then whats come before. That to me is more of a threat to the rest of the world then whatever within the structure of brazil itself.

Of course climate change is happening due to so many other factors and countries doing their part in fucking things up, but this guy isn't even covering up the fact he intends to do so without a care.

His alternative is to take his large surplus population (209 million) and ...

1. Invade Uruguay, Paraguay and Argentina and colonize them with half of his population
2. Put half his population on buses and send them to the US
3. Genocide half his population in place

You are correct, in that the nature of the Amazon isn't like the temperate band in N America.  The ability to exploit it is very limited.

Lebensraum is a real thing, not something that can be ignored for countries with large or quickly growing populations.  Seems to me that a fascist is the only leader type who would understand this.

Yes, he is nutso.  You want the US to go change it?  We've gone down that rabbit hole before.  "No thanks" in more ways than one.  Let them regret it or love it on their own.

If the US doesn't invade and kill all the Baby Hitlers, then like before WW II, we will be guilty of not preventing militarism and genocide (except then we will be the one's doing it).  LBJ policy ... today Vietnam, tomorrow the World!
