1950s America wasn't a Nazi state.  And the 60s youth rebellion wasn't democratic .... it was the "international socialism" that the fascists were a failed attempt to stop.  It was libertarian democracy that stopped "international socialism".  A victory of idealism of sorts, over hard Machiavelianism.

It also points out that Star Trek isn't communism in space either ... the Borg are.
