Mormons Don't Want to be Called Mormons

Apparently, Mormon's recently decided that "nicknames are a tool of the devil," according to Mr. Atheist. Mr. Atheist is a former Mormon, now atheist, who mainly covers topics concerning Mormon beliefs and behaviors. And now he says that, despite Mormons being perfectly fine with calling themselves Mormons for years, now they are being instructed to demand that people refer to them by their longer name of [looks it up...] members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. If you call a...that...by their shorter name of Mormon, they will "correct" you, as if the shorter name was imposed on them by others. I mean, come on. They still have mormon.org up, and they haven't changed their domain name yet. Well, whatever. I'm going to continue using the shorter name. Imagine if Muslims decided they wanted to be called the One Church of the True Allah of the End Times of Today. Do you think Mormons would respect that wish?

No, I don't think Muslims would want to be called that, and that Mormons wouldn't respect that. But I'm not a Muslim or Mormon, so I don't really know.

For what it's worth, the sound of "Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints" is less obnoxious, and sounds more like a church.  For some reason, I don't associate the name "Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints" with a wonky cult the way I do with "Mormon."  Although, I do know they are the same.

It's too damn long, and it doesn't work into a sentence well. If someone is a member of a Lutheran church, you call them a Lutheran, not a member of the Lutheran Church of Jesus Christ. I also disagree about the longer name being less obnoxious. It describes their mindset perfectly, though. They think they're the only church that matters and that got things right, hence "Church of Jesus Christ." And they still think they're living in the end times, despite official failed second coming predictions, hence "Latter-Day Saints." But it also makes them sound like just any other Christian church, which they are not. I'm not saying this because I dislike Mormons, but I think they have enough differences between themselves and other Christian sects that they should be considered their own separate religion.

I consider the LDS to be partakers of LSD...

I expect they just want to be able to consider themselves oppressed victims.

That is the primary social status today ... for Americans and around the world.

It's hard for me to understand why people so willingly turn over their autonomy to the will of a bunch of church elders.  I can kind of see why the elders like having that kind of power, but those doing the sacrificing act like sheep.  I guess that must be comforting to them.  But it seems ass-backwards to me.

LOL, you know what, probably the only reason they demand this because of the close spelling with 'moron' if you ask me. I mean if it was something that fills the mouth and eyes, something starting with A or E, not too short, not too long it wouldn't be a problem I think.

They are just saying 'we are now rich enough to build this in time as an issue'. :p

Any group can call themselves (among themselves) anything they want.  But they don't get to choose what other people call them.

If they can, you will all hereby refer to me as ALL POWERFUL COMMANDER OF THE GALAXIES BEYOND ALL FEAR AND HORRIBLE OBEDIENCE INTO THE WELL OF PAIN SHOULD YOU DOUBT THE LEAST BIT OF YOUR WILL".

Bet that doesn't work too well either...

What I find ironic is that these are the same people who reject the preferred pronouns of people who are transgender.

"These men want to be called she! They're not the bosses of us! They can't police our language! If you have a penis between your legs, I am going to call you a man, whether you like it or not!"

"Please, don't call us Mormons. That is a name imposed on us by outsiders. Call us members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints."

Yeah, fuck you, Mormon hypocrites. I'm not going to use that ridiculously long, super conceited name while you're so dismissive of other peoples' identities.
