Prison is nothing but an extension of the welfare state

Prison is a branch of the welfare state. If you disagree, let's do a little thought experiment. How many of the men in prison really have a viable way of life outside of prison? How many years would they be able to live the way they do before they starved or got shot by somebody? The only way for the justice system to be anything else is for there to be executions for virtually every serious crime, which few regimes have ever done.

noun
a system whereby the government undertakes to protect the health and well-being of its citizens, especially those in financial or social need, by means of grants, pensions, and other benefits. The foundations for the modern welfare state in the US were laid by the New Deal programs of President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

We 'new atheists' have a reputation for being militant, but make no mistake  we didn't start this war. If you want to place blame put it on the the religious zealots who have been poisoning the minds of the  young for a long long time."

We should shoot all prisoners and close the prisons, and use the money to improve the gated communities in Palos Verdes.

This is rather like saying dogs in a pound are being "cared for".

My inlaws live there.

All successful societies are welfare systems.  If a government does not do a decent job of guarding the welfare of it's citizens, then it is not a govt worthy of existence.

Us commoners used to visit the rocky coastline, back in 1962-1970 ... once my mother caught a lobster in a tide pool.  I preferred to play with the hermit crabs myself.  She didn't want to have to boil it alive (how your cook them) but there were some Japanese-Americans there that very day, who were having a seafood cookout right there at the base of the cliff, and we donated it to their cooking pot.  They were astonished!

Depends on what you mean by welfare.  Most countries call it warfare.

As in all things--of course it does.

People are never happy paying taxes.  If voters mattered, all taxes would be terminated.  We would just print like Weimar.  Everyone would be happy, for a little while.  For regulation of a thing, what is putting things out, has to draw an equal amount in (more or less, which is the regulatory part).  We could have Huns simply go door to door, instead of Mormons ;-)  The Huns forcing Constantinople or Rome to pay protection money, was simply a higher level government acting in its own self interest.

Once upon a time, the ravaging hordes went into settled areas, ate up all their crops, ate up all their livestock, and took anything of value in their hovels (like wives and children).  It is the same now, just different Huns.

There are no successful societies .. once people discover you can steal from others legally.  Some call this alimony ;-)  The only successful society was hunter/gatherer ... there was little worth stealing, and everyone was equal (see Rousseau) ... everyone was one day from starvation.  I am looking forward to reversion to the Stone Age mean.

Imprisoning people is a big business.  That isn't welfare, that is tyranny.

The Fortune 500, not just banks, are frauds.  Our government institutions, not just the Federal government, are frauds.  The public are frauds ... they pretend to pay us, we pretend to work.  Society, is just one big RICO violation.

I believe 'promote the general welfare' is in the constitution.

Single payer and other taxpayer savings seem to me to be the constitutional thing to do.

Let republicans scream 'socialism'.  When socialism works, let it work.

That only applies to Army generals.  Please learn to read.
