Have any of you been a member of or paid much attention to URPE? (Union of Radical Political
Economics)?
Until today I hadn't even heard of the organization although it's been in existence for 50 years.
I'm somewhat interested in finding out exactly what they stand for and what kind of power they may or may not wield.  I do believe it's well past time for some radical changes in how our economies operate away from the model of organized criminals running the global banking system. Good luck pushing the criminals out of power though because before most of them would ever consider giving up their grips on power they would gladly start WWIII and kill every man, woman and child who stands in their paths.
I wonder though if URPO is part of the global criminal banking system or one of the groups trying to fight it?
Anyway, who legitimately knows anything about URPO ?
All hail my new signature!

Admit it. You're secretly green with envy.

Review of Radical Political Economics - this is their trade journal.  They look to be Democratic-socialist.  So basically Bernie Sanders before he sold out to the Democrats.  Probably parallel to Jacobin politically.  This Union for Radical Political Economics supports gays etc and Third World.  Possibly a honey pot for the authorities (as are most things from the 60s).  The journal has little impact on academic economics (you can thank neo-liberal policy).

Heterodox economics is real however.  Steve Keen is a representative, and one of the few people in the world who predicted the 2008 crisis.

Well, according to this, from their web site, it looks pretty interesting. I'm always a bit leery of organizations that I don't know much about, though, since they don't always represent what they claim to.

QuoteABOUT URPE

Founded in 1968, The Union for Radical Political Economics (URPE) is an interdisciplinary membership organization of academics and of activists. Its mission is to promote the study, development and application of radical political economic analysis to social problems. Concretely this involves a continuing critique of both the capitalist system, and of all forms of exploitation and oppression. URPE’s mission also includes, coming out of this critique, helping to construct a progressive social policy, and a human-centered radical alternative to capitalism.

I am sure you can find a lot of long haired freaks, druggies, sex maniacs etc still hiding in their basement from 1968.  And most of those, FBI agents under deep cover.

I don't know anything about URPO.  But I do know that we are in a similarly rapacious capitalism era similar to around 1900.  And that ended with the rise of unions and most workers fighting politically to reign in the Robber Barons.  History repeats itself.

We can hope.  The 60s were followed by the 70s.  And leisure suites.  I can take mine out of mothballs and do the Funky Chicken Dance.

Cavebear hates the early 20th century, before Teddy Roosevelt tried to break up the monopolies, and unions and newspapers were on the side of the little guy.  I don't think that will repeat.  The Elite dropped the ball back then, they won't make the same mistake (TR as VP was an error, he was never supposed to be President, the assassination of the President wasn't expected).  Today we follow Stephen Gould ... "I can hire half the population to kill the other half".

You meant "suits" right?  I'd like bell bottoms to come back.  And I wouldn't mind the high heel male shoes.  I'm on the short side.

The coolest ones had contrasting colors in the bell bottoms.  Here's an idea.  Take a camo pants to a tailor and tell him/her you want bright red bell bottom flaps.  It would cost more then the pants, but the look on the tailors face would be priceless!  And thgen, if you have the nerve, dance in them!

I routinely have to have a tailor alter my pants (25" inseam - hey I'm 6' from the waist up but 5' from the waist down).  So I'll ask what it would cost.
