Most of my ancestors were W of Rome, and barbarians ;-)  But there must have been a lot of Roman army veterans mixed in there.  And already in Roman times you have Jewish people in W Europe, particularly Spain and France.  My other Jewish relatives were supporting Persia.  Anti-Greek and anti-Roman.

The Left are the losers of society.  Even when they win, they lose, because a new hierarchy is formed anyway.  I am sympathetic to the under-dog, but only if they are canine ;-)

No matter what I won't vote conservative, and if I were american I wouldn't vote republican either. But the current liberal system at play in western countries has enough issues I wouldn't vote for them either.

I'd rather be a free thinking non-voter then conforming to either side.

I know that. But they cannot get this from CNN or the Washington Post.
The media is silent on this, because they are run by the deep state.

The “altenative” media is to be shunned by the liberals. Not a safe space.

Or you're just putting too much stock in a Twitter movement. Remember, on the internet, everything is amplified. And there's issues with bots â€" I am completely unconcerned when a bot tells me it's leaving either party, because they're bots. If they had any political affiliations, they'd form the Corpore Metal party.

(I hope someone recognizes that reference.)

I am not happy with MAGA ... but as an American, there is no other choice at this time.  I won't support a French/Russian/Chinese/Cuban revolution here.  But I won't vote for tyrants of any flavor ... until they make voting mandatory, and have only one party, and only one candidate per office.  That is coming.  That is what makes totalitarians have ... joy joy.  We must become Red China ... or no fried rice for you!

People forget how progressive, how feminist, how optimist socialism and communism were 100 years ago.  I am also well aware how reactionary and selfish the status-quo supporting regressives are.  Weimar Republic ... if you don't support the Nazis you have to support the Communists?  That is the story of the last election.  But there is no Deep State ... says the Deep State.  I have said before, how many FBI and CIA trolls are here?

If you could ask the Etruscans, they would tell you it was the Romans that were the barbarians.

Loved that series, BTW. Rome was one of the first of HBO's big budget mini series productions. It was right up there with Game of Thrones. Probably better than Westworld.

Whoa.  Let's not go crazy.  Rome was alright, imo.  And considering that it was one of the first big budget historical productions (and most memorable town crier), it has a special place in my heart.  But as good as Game of Thrones and Westworld?  Nah.  Those are at a whole 'nother tier.

Hell, in terms of historical dramas, I'd personally rank Vikings much higher than Rome.  More memorable, more seasons, better acting, better production, better music, etc.

But Rome laid the groundwork for the success of these shows, so it gets props for that.

Trump's presidency doesn't affect only Americans.

A lot of Europeans are hopeful that the Marxist (socialist) regimes will take heed and return to some sanity.
I won't hold my breath.

Look at Poland, Hungary, Chech Republic, Slovenia, Italy, Austria, Holland, Brexit,  Bavaria from Germany. They are all want to retain their culture, sovereignty and not bow to Brussel's pressure.

Merkel and Macron are globalist, they want to replace the European people with the migrants.
But when the migrants are in sufficient numbers, they [Merkel/Macron] will be replaced by the migrants.

The keyword is demography.

As I said often, Islam does not share power.  It does not negotiate or compromise.  Winner takes all.

Here in Europe, many are hopeful that Trump will deal with the globalist.

The only ones interfered with the election was the Klintoon mob. And still lost.

I liked Rome when compared to Thrones and Westworld because it was historical fiction.

Julius Caesar existed. Ragnar Lothbrok, probably not even if some of his supposed sons did. That's not to say I haven't enjoyed Vikings too.

Yeah, but that's like preferring a lemon over an orange because the lemon is more lemony.  Well of course it is.

GoT and Westworld were groundbreaking, garnered truly massive followings, and basically serve as flagship programs for HBO.  Rome, in contrast, is mostly important as a precursor for what came after.

IIRC, there were certain...liberties...taken with the historical record in both shows.  I would definitely say that Vikings was worse in that regard.  *camera pans to vikings who didn't know that England existed*

But beside that, Vikings made the audience feel for the characters and had a gripping plot.  With Rome, I loved the two soldiers and some of the political scheming, but I got very bored in places and had difficulty caring about what was going on.  And the cinematography/sets, despite being light-years ahead of what came before, still felt kinda cramped and unimmersive.  It was still somewhat difficult to maintain suspension of disbelief.

Granted, Vikings was a bit of a slow burn and has plenty of slow moments, but it never really felt boring to me.

Rome is on of the streaming services right now. GoT will infest them in the future, I think.
