basically, a system of client states, since the Spanish-American war (the beginning of US imperialism 120 years ago) ... aka the Roman Republic as understood by classical scholars.  And crony capitalism and oligarchy of course.  History repeats.

Relatively new .. published in 2009.

You should read whole reviews sometimes.  Did you not notice "These types of claims are misleading. On the one hand, they greatly exaggerate just how much U.S. foreign policy was militarized, or unilateralized, or ideologized, under Bush"?

You found the anti-R section?  Color me surprised?  I found it interesting, the section of the review that listed all the various US interventions, and what type of intervention they were.  That was the interesting part, not the personalized ennui part.  The analytical content.  There is basically a flowchart that is the go-to for US foreign policy.  It really is predictable, if you know the master plan.  And being predictable, is a weakness, the Trump overcomes.

Now lets analyze the sentence you bring out ... that is part of the point of the book ... that the US has been imperialist since McKinley ... and indeed it is, everyone knows this.  Someone being anti-bush Sr is fine, but is really unimportant.  Bush Sr only intervened because Thatcher dared him to do it.  Or is that the British Empire giving the US orders?
