Why does philosophy of religion precede epistemology?

Gawdzilla Sama

And why does it get you stuttering?
We 'new atheists' have a reputation for being militant, but make no mistake  we didn't start this war. If you want to place blame put it on the the religious zealots who have been poisoning the minds of the  young for a long long time."

I think you''re over-interpreting.  Does a teacher simply follow chapt1, chapt 2 ... ?

A ToC is too linear, particularly for something as CF as philosophy.

I would have definitely started with epistemology (Part II) ... not philosophy of religion (Part I).

I was just curious. I'm sure the authors put a lot of thought into which order to present these concepts.

I don't have the teacher's guide.  Usually the details of what to cover, in what order, and to what degree ... is covered there (a syllabus).  This is just an outline of a textbook.  Though of fairly conventional type.

Here is the book itself:

The instructor materials are behind an e-wall.

Here is an SJW version ;-)

Basically philosophy as politics.

Are you going to read it?

The conventional one?  I have been studying those subjects for 45 years now.  But I do find it interesting when someone tries to be comprehensive, about something as fluffy as Philosophy.

Here is a popular intro ... 11 minutes
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1A_CAkYt3GY

There are countless videos on Youtube on specific philosophers and philosophical concepts.

There is the Oxford continuing education series ... 1 hour
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tCl66AbkqI

The regular Oxford intro lectures ... 8 hours total

Otherwise, how to think like a Western college educated person, from a secular POV

Philosophy is about questions, not answers.  Any categorizing is approximate but ...

The "what", "where" and "when" questions are answered by "sciences" .. they are objective

The "who", "why" and "how" questions are answered by "humanities" .. they are subjective

From German culture, from the "humanities" we get the "Requiem" by Mozart ... and from the same German culture, we get Zyklon B, from the "sciences".  Both relate to "death".

The problem with curricula ...

Philosophy is the study of questions that can't be answered.  And they spent their time trying to answer those questions.  If you have no talent at anything, philosophy is the thing to do.

Apparently.  Can you name anything (and this is a softball question for you) he actually accomplished?

Like many a martyr, he became famous, because he was killed unjustly, and had a good post-death press.  Where to you think Christianity comes from?

So he died and became famous for it, and THAT is his claim to fame?  Not much of a martyr.  And besides the Jesus myth comes from Mithraism anyway.

Not just Mithraism ... or it would be dead, like Mithraism.  Jews had a martyr cult too, from the time of the Maccabees.  It doesn't take Gentiles to explain Jewish behavior problems ;-)

Socrates was actually guilty, and did death by cop (jury).
