In my case, I never bought into ridiculous conspiracy theories ... except the ones that are actually true.  The worst thing about public school was the poor performance of the school system.  I managed to handle that as a child, my handicapped child could not.
Well, who would buy into a conspiracy theory they thought WASN'T true?

Most.  Conspiracy theory isn't about cognitive validity, it is about emotional validation.

Don't do that.

You elided the point.  If people KNEW the conspiracy theory was invalid, they wouldn't believe it.

Knew ... that is the key word, and you even bolded it.  It isn't about knowing, it is about feeling.  There isn't much evidence that NASA faked the Moon landings, but the people who buy into the theory that it was fake, have emotional reasons for feeling that it is true.  One of them is paranoia about your former, and my current employer.

You are still trying to evade.  They don't believe what they don't believe but do believe what they are told might have happened.

And you are engaged in fruitless casuistry ... like any other theologian.

American history as conspiracy ;-))

Gold in them thar hills ... Aztec gold behind Mt Rushmore.

I liked National Treasure 1 ... because I am connected to a very old secret society ... Freemasonry.
