I can kind of understand why the idea of vaccines manufactured from cells connected with animals that were naturally immune with antibodies that connect with viruses making them inactive would alarm some people who don't fully understand what vaccines do or where they come from (Yee Gods. You don't want to put something that has a relationship with a virus in your body).
Yeah. Shoving a bunch of mold into your bloodstream seems like an incredibly stupid idea for someone who doesn't know much about the immune system or how vaccines work. Gotta love ignorant intuition gainsaying expert knowledge.
And there's also this quasi-religious idea of "cleansing" the body from all the bad toxic chemicals (chemicals are by definition bad) which surely is the real cause of the sickness. Come down with scarlet fever? Saying 50 hail marys, fasting, and taking a bunch of baths will take care of that. I'm glad that idea mostly lost favor following the discovery of microbes. Because "cleansing" the body of helpful/neutral bacteria is not advised.
On a related note, how did the first person to peer into a microscope and see a ton of little critters on every square inch of the human body not go mad from the revelation? That's like some From Beyond stuff.
"How's that new microscope of yours working out? What does that saliva sample look like?"
"Bug-things...everywhere..."
