Unfortunately, the Dems don't seem to have a very good field of contenders.  I've been mulling the next candidate and the lists I sort through have either people who have already run and lost (Clinton, Kaine, Sanders), almost complete unknowns on a national level (has anyone heard of Amy Klobuchar?), or implausible candidates like Oprah, Kanye West (a joke?), and Michelle Obama.

I suppose there's Elizabeth Warren, Joe Biden, or Al Franken.

Is it too late to just go back in time and abduct Lincoln or FDR?  With time travel, there's no such thing as too late.

I like Al Franken.  He can always build a zombie VP in his laboratory, with lightning!

Totally ignore Tulsi Gabbard ... because she isn't a cyborg from McCain-ville nor a member of the Clinton/Obama cabal.  She is a Democrat ... and totally supportable person because she opposes our entire ME policy.  Warren and Sanders have sucked Hillary's cock.  Biden is a Ukrainian fascist supporter.  Michelle has the hots for George W ... and an Obama.  Monarchy isn't American.  Kaine didn't help Hillary's ticket much.  Oprah would be the Black female version of Trump ... which I could consider voting for more than Trump (who is no gentleman) ... if she acts like a lady.  But Tulsi is Army National Guard ... so since people here prefer people who have never served their country ... that would be a no-no.

You could always try the Athenian method ... choose office holders at random from the list of citizens.  No need of popularity contests.  They did elect their generals, but that didn't turn out so well anyway.

Medicine costs money.  Any money you give to an insurance company (ambulance chaser) up front, is money you don't have for medical care.  People are ... idiots (not you personally).  Life insurance works, sort of.  Health insurance is a mathematical rip off by crooks.  Sorry if you get sick, but show up at the emergency room or doctors office with a suitcase of money, or go die somewhere.

Of course this cost is all shifted, and others shafted ... if the US rips off the rest of the world thru dollar manipulation ... or if we simply print unlimited money (electronically please, don't kill all the trees).  For some of you, if you don't realize it yet, Zimbabwe and Venezuela are your Sangri-las.  I would have a sangria now ... if it wasn't time to go to work ;-(

I know what medical care costs, my mother is in a nursing home.  Neither Germany nor the tax payer nor the Federal Reserve is paying for it.  But of course in socialist land, someone is paying for it in other countries ... who?  Where does the money come from?  I am talking to you, Canada ;-)

Tax money. Basic health care provided by the government, private care as a alternative or substitute. It works in every other developed country. It's not perfect, nothing man made is, but I don't have to worry about cost when I get sick and need care. And that should be a right for all citizens.
On a per capita spending, the US system costs about double, sometimes triple, compared to other countries. And that with dismal results. The same principle holds with the prison system. Since so much of it is for profit, the US has also the highest incarceration rate per capita of the free world. Even the dimmest bulb has to see the connection here. Unfortunately the Insurance industry and big Pharma have so much power, that the most reasonable and logical solution is discarded by politicians. Bernie Sanders got it right, but not enough are listening.

You live in a free country, Reasonist.  I don't.  I have to pay for my medicine.  That is why we are sending all the Mexicans north, for the free medical care.

Democracy is truly dead. The Republican totalitarians just stole the Supreme Court. After unconstitutionally and illegally denying Obama his nomination, something that had never been done before, the Republican thugs changed the filibuster rule unilaterally, and stole the Supreme Court seat, installing an extreme-right ideologue.

To anyone who did not vote for Hillary because they wanted Sanders or Stein, FUCK YOU. You did this.

To anyone who did not vote because "my vote doesn't count" or "I don't vote" or "I don't care about politics", FUCK YOU. You did this.

To anyone who voted for Tmurp, FUCK YOU AND DIE A HORRIBLE DEATH NOW.

The McConnell refusal to even allow the Garland nomination is the saddest event in Supreme Court history.  Deserving an equal refusal in return.  But that didn't happen.  So Gorsuch we have for decades.  I will not forget or forgive this.

D = R = assholes ... why the surprise?  It is kabuki, except when most of them agree, have a quick vote, in the middle of the night, that the MSM fails to cover.

I would stop all SCOTUS nominations until all of them die off, and we have zero SCOTUS.  Revenge for the 2000 election intervention.

Cocoa Beware

Sure, medical care costs money, but 1) the costs themselves are hyperinflated in the US (I can pay out of pocket for medical treatment in Taiwan for far less than insurance-covered healthcare in the US), and 2) most industrialized countries have universal healthcare, and it actually works well.

It's basically insurance: everyone pools money together, and when you need it, you are covered. Risk is spread.

And a healthy society is a productive society.

As for where much of the money comes from, the fairest way in my opinion is to tax the fuck out of the super rich, who can afford it. The economy is always invigorated when the rich get taxed heavily.

The irony to me is that the USA is actually better suited to adopt universal health care then most countries that have it already.

Disagree.  The US is uniquely against it for reasons that make little sense.  As long as it is a business vs help-the-poor issue, Republicans will fight it.  When it finally becomes an economic calculation (and it is) Republicans will support it.

We won't have universal healthcare as long as there is this gang of depraved thugs called the Republican Party. Solution: kick out all of them Republican motherfuckers. Pieces of shit.

Why do we have universal healthcare in Taiwan? Why do we have no guns in Taiwan? We have no Republicans.

Someone get these madmen out of the White House. They apparently have no comprehension that they are about to cause World War III. Or maybe they do, and can't comprehend the implications.

True enough. Health care should not be a for profit business. How can you take proper care for the sick if your main concern is the bottom line and share holders? What a conflict of interest! Unfortunately the lobby groups are way too powerful to change that and no politician, except Bernie, has the guts to say so. Logic dictates that the US should adapt to what works for every other developed nation, but money talks (or prevents).

Kentucky legislature quietly approves resolutions to date all documents ‘in the Year of Our Lord’

QuoteAccording to the Lexington Herald-Leader, both chambers “quietly” passed the resolutions on the final day of the year’s legislative session.

Republican state Sen. Albert Robinson, sponsor of the measure, said that he was “trying anywhere and everywhere I can to respect our creator.”
This isn't that big of a deal in comparison to citizens dying from poor access to healthcare, gutting environmental laws/organizations, and pursuing a reckless neocon foreign policy.  But trying (and largely succeeding) to smear Gawd on everything they can get their hands on shows us exactly where Republican loyalties priorities truly lie.  It's not with the secular Republic, it's with their imagined Christian Nation.

Anti-semitic ... Jews use the Hebrew dating system and refer to the Christian system as BCE/CE not BC/AD.  And Muslims use yet another system.  If the pagan Europeans were consistent, they would use rune markings or ogham.

Runes?  Pssh.  A truly universal calendar would go back to the Holocene.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holocene_calendar
