Are you capable of elaborating?
Because... atheists aren't interested in immortality?

Immortality is overrated, living forever would be torture.

Really?  I had not thought about that angle.  How would that work?  Seems to me it would simply be empty ritual.  But that could just be me.

rituals have symbolic meaning and serve social purposes. They could be linked with some baseline principles which the followers agree with and therefore not be empty. I have been trying to induce the creation of something like that in a social group i know IRL, using memetic warfare and organizing meetings with free drugs. It mainly ends up in a bunch of drunken spergs arguing about collectivism vs individualism, marxism, transhumanism, technology, ethics, random science stuff and trying to trigger our local lesbian radical feminist friend.

A few thousand years would be OK and/or until I've reached a maxim of possible brain states. But forever? No thanks.
