Currently in the US, people unaffiliated with a religion is growing by percentage.  This will not hold true worldwide by 2050 (By Pew’s estimate, there were 1.1 billion “atheists, agnostics and people who do not identify with any particular religion” on Earth in 2010. In 2050, there will be approximately 1.2 billion. Bearing in mind the estimated 2050 human population of 9.3 billion, people who are unaffiliated will represent a much smaller percentage of the world’s population), there will be a higher percentage of people of faith, although how this was calculated is not shown.  Here's a few snippets.  Unfortunately the charts, which create a clearer picture of the demographics, don't snip as well, so you have to go to the link for that:

QuoteIn Europe
In the year 2050, about 10 percent of Europe’s population will be Muslim.

In India
Hinduism will remain the dominant religion in India, but the country will replace Indonesia as home to the largest Muslim population in the world.

In the United States
In 2010, Christians accounted for three-quarters of the American public. By 2050, only two thirds of Americans will practice Christianity. Islam will replace Judaism as the nation’s most prominent non-Christian faith.

If you include the refugees ... then the percentage of Muslims in W Europe will be much higher.

I would have thought the same thing.  Perhaps the poll was taken from before the great immigration.

If the numbers were taken from a Pole, then it only applies to Poland.  The Poles aren't taking any refugees ... now who is the Pollock?

Yeah, I've heard about this before.  Low birth rates in North America and Europe and much higher (but slowly declining) birth rates in the 3rd world are going to create a bulge of Muslims and mask the decline of Christianity in the West with gains in the 3rd world. "Much of the worldwide growth of Islam and Christianity, for example, is expected to take place in sub-Saharan Africa.", and more than half of the population growth is expected to come from Africa.  This population bulge in Africa is expected to level off as annual population growth numbers decline from 2.5% in 2010 to 1% in 2100.

So yes, there will be a temporary surge of theists in the world.  However, the unaffiliated category continues to gain ground in the West.  In fact, by 2050, the largest "religious" group in France, Netherlands, and New Zealand is projected to be unaffiliated.  And 1 in 4 Europeans will likely be unaffiliated.  Same deal in the United States and Canada.

I've seen theists *coughRandy*cough* try to use these figures to claim that atheism is dying out.  If you take a very cursory glance it and you're not big on reading further or thinking too hard, it might look like western atheists are doomed.  But a closer look shows that they're not.
