Have you seen this video yet? It needs to go viral. In the fight for equality, this is the kind of stupidity we're up against.

He's not arguing against gay marriage, he's arguing against marriage for any reason other than procreation. The author of the article has it right at the end. Based on this guys argument we should be putting people through medical tests to ensure that they are capable of reproduction prior to marriage. If they are not they should be banned from marriage. If they are too old to have kids, banned from marriage. If they don't want kids, banned from marriage.

Clearly, the intent of the constitution is to enhance breeding, or at least,... it should be.

That's pretty much what the argument against gay marriage in the Prop 8 SCOTUS case boiled down to in the transcripts. It's really the only thing they can argue without just saying God hates fags.

YES... Even Bill O'Reilly is getting it, he's actually defending gay marriage because the only thing the bad guys can do is bible thump.

  • Argument from authority ("The Constitution never contemplated marriage being anything other than between a man and a woman"  The Founders never contemplated a lot of things.  So what?  Hasn't stopped us from changing our laws and amending our constitution.)
  • Arguments from tradition and popularity ("And that's the experience of all of the millennia of human experience." So what?)
  • Question-begging ("A child needs a father and mother"  Do they?   :-k).
  • And then there's the downright false claim marriage is about procreation.

So...not a very compelling case.  In my logic class, this guy would probably fail.  And I've noticed that sans the old "God hates queers" standby, the argument from tradition is pretty much the only secular-sounding argument against gay marriage.

Children from broken homes do tend to have higher rates of drug abuse, incarceration, and other emotional difficulties.

And are homes without a mother and a father necessarily broken homes?

BarkAtTheMoon

Broken being the key word there. A committed gay couple is not a broken home.

Ding, ding, ding.  We have a winner.
