Title: Does it bother you "they" are listening?
Post by: aitm on February 14, 2015, 09:14:12 AM
The article does not say how they got the info, but I am going to assume it was through a series or programmed e-mail/phone/net designed filter. IF so and this is the result, how willing are you to stop the "guv'ment" from listening;

Shades of "Minority Report." The crime wasn't committed and they got arrested anyway based on intent. Don't see where they got their info from, so it may have been informers. Depends on how they got their information. I dare say the lawyers will be having some fun with this one.

If they looked through my webcam just once, I would get my dad out of the house and get so much peace.

That is a pretty interesting dilemma.
I don't worry about my privacy because I am just not that interesting, but maybe that is naive.

If someone is looking at my webcam, they will see a middle aged woman in her PJs at noon eating popcorn.

Be careful Mermaid. There might be some people on the forum in the NSA that get off on that image.  :biggrin:

Well, I for one must admit that I think I am not all that upset about it. Even though I recognize that the possibilities for abuse could be staggering in the hands of the wrong jack ass, if they are finding this stuff out by "snooping" and "fishing" or whatever the fuck they do, I am willing to give up some "freedom" to keep others alive from fucking as swipes. May not be a popular opinion, but then again, I am not involved in any nefarious activities that would warrant any such attention, so perhaps i have a delusion that needs curing.

If you understood how unappealing I am at the moment, you'd find this as funny as I do.

I'm a 34 year old man who's just gotten out of the shower and now air drying himself. If the government want to look at me doing this that's their choice.

Last time I was nude in front of a younger girl she started laughing, and asked if "it" was something that dragged itself out of the ocean, and I look worse now. Where's the Viagra? Solitary

For the truly paranoid, you can probably thwart this by wiping out Windows and installing Linux.

To an extent, yeah I am uncomfortable with that level of invasion of privacy.

On the other hand... I think it is, unfortunately, perhaps a necessary level of invasion. If me losing a little privacy that I will never know I lost means it saves even one life, that is an acceptable payoff imo. That said, I think any violations deserve extremely strict punishment; with great power comes great responsibility, and thus great punishment for violating that trust.

I don't have a webcam and only occasionally visit any sites that might be considered provocative, so it doesn't bother me either.
