You know I considered myself humanist for a while, but I found it hard to have blind faith in humanity all the time, given how many just rotten people exist in the world.
That said, I would rather have a humanist funeral myself, much like my grandmother had.

Eh, I don't subscribe to things like "Secular Humanist funerals" and other such rituals. I only identify myself as one because my beliefs are very similar, and people can look up secular humanism more easily than "my beliefs."

Yeah, I don't think their is much of an outreach for atheism in terms of funeral arrangements, but a humanist funeral is a reflection of the persons life and not anything of a more spiritual nature, just a celebration of their life and times with their loved ones.
I think its good enough really.

My youngest son wants a Viking funeral when he dies. I want my body to be cremated and the ashes flushed done a toilet---My Catholic wife went nuts when I told her this. A dead body isn't a person anymore than a zygote is.  :wall: Solitary

I'm donating my body to science but I'm sure I will have a Christian funeral. Most of my friends are Christian and funerals are for the living not the person who has died, so if having a Christien funeral makes people feel better I'm fine with that. It may be my funeral but it's not all about me.

I've always had a problem with that, just because it feels like the people who arrange the dead persons funeral doesn't know the person well enough to understand what mattered to them or personal belief. You are right, funerals are for the living to bid their goodbyes to the dead, but honestly I feel it very impersonal to have a non-theist be given a faith based religion, or even a theist being given a funeral for what he didn't believe in.

Though like say, its for the living, and they can spend whatever they want on it.

I liked when he said "Reality is God" and "Evidence is Scripture". Has a nice ring to it.

I can't say I disagree with anything presented by humanism but I'm just not cut out to join groups. It's been said that getting atheists to join such groups is like trying to herd cats. Sounds about right but it doesn't bode well as far as getting the message out. Puts us at a huge disadvantage compared to the sheople.

I'm not really sure what I'd like done with my body after I die.   Although I have told my other half that they shouldn't spend too much on it unless they are going to have a totally kick arse party.  Because I'd approve of that.   And if people could hook up and get laid, that would be awesome too.

No need to metaphor reality, especially not with a meaningless concept like god which is nothing more than childish reflections of human desires.
