So this seemed like a fun idea, since I mentioned it over on http://atheistforums.com/index.php?topic=5920.0, I figured it be something to discuss.
Since just about everyone here is ex-theist, or even the few theists here too, theres bound to be a lot of old deluded ideas and thought that people once believe to be true, having fooled ourselves into believing, which now we know to have been a deluded thought.
For example, aside from questioning faith when I was younger to how seeing it the same as fairy tales, I once use to believe that I had to hold a very respectful attitude on christmas day with my family, and conduct myself without 'impure' thoughts about sex, because it was 'wrong' to do so on such a day.
These days after the family get together I do what I do every other day after a heavy meat filled meal, watch porn, or if i'm with my boyfriend, well, you can guess.
That even though I've always had doubts, religion does great things for people, and promotes good will toward men. Like the "Peace be with you,--and also with you" exercise we did at church at the end of the sermon. It gave me warm fuzzies.
Also, that if countless scholars much smarter than I believe, there has to be a God. People get PhD's and shit in theology. It has to be real, right?
An appeal to authority fallacy is not proof, but you already know that, I'm sure. How many dumb things have we picked up in life from Christian BS? You have to get married, you have to have children and be a family, you have to work hard and sacrifice yourself etc. :police: He's watching! :doh: Solitary

I must be a criminal then, because I never want children, i prefer not to work and would sooner crash and play video games, I never intend to sacrifice my time unless I get something out of it, and neither will I get married ^^

Back in the early 70s my dad was a HS biology teacher, one of his fellow teachers also owned a movie theater so we got free tickets if we wanted them. So my mom took me to a nature film. In it I saw a fawn being born. Problem was the shot was profile of the mother deer. So seeing it from the side and not the back, I thought babies came out of your ass. Stupid me that Monday on the school buss thought I would impress everyone with my knowledge. Oh boy did everyone laugh at me, and the female bus driver corrected me by saying "No it comes out of the vagina, not the ass".
When I was in the first grade, I had a little girlfriend playmate. We got to talking about where babies came from, and she informed me that our mothers poop them out. She was OK with the idea, but I found it disgusting. I was pretty sure she was wrong, although I didn't really know any details, but coming out of my mother's ass didn't seem believable for some reason.
I remeber being on holiday when with family by the sea, was around 8-9 at the time, and I use to believe the sea was blue because water was blue. When my brother corrected me then telling me the sea looks blue because of the reflection of the sky. I had a rage fit because I believed my own belief more then my brothers.
Turns out, the sea is blue because water absorbs light such as red, orange and yellow more strongly then blue light, making it appear blue from a distance, and only if the water is clear and able to absorb light.
So I was partly right, and my brother was partly right.
I was told that suffering and despair has value and makes you a better person when all it really does is make your life more worthless and makes you a lesser person.
It worked wonders for Jesus Christ didn't?
