You have good taste. I rarely drink beer, but when I do, I like it to be a dark beer like guinness... you know... with flavor.
QuoteBeach Boys - Kokomo :weed:
looked up the lyrics to this song...
Aruba, Jamaica ooo I wanna take ya
Bermuda, Bahama come on pretty mama
Key Largo, Montego baby why don't we go
Jamaica off the Florida Keys
There's a place called Kokomo
That's where you wanna go to get away from it all
Bodies in the sand Tropical drink melting in your hand
We'll be falling in love
To the rhythm of a steel drum band
Down in Kokomo
Um.... :wtff:
I like my beer. I make my own...
Been here in oz 13 years now, and have yet to see one person drinking a fosters. Export only!

I drink one maybe once every two months, but yeah I cant stand light beers. I really hate the flavour of the lighter beers (except Indian Pale, I drink that from time to time), but I think because the hops and stuff are roasted in Guinness it helps keep them from tasting so badly.
I'm partial to stouts, but I'm broke and stout is pricy, so I usually drink cheapo shit. The Atlanta area has some nice local brews like Laughing Skull and Hoplanta. I'm pretty fond of wheat beers. Arrogant Bastard is also delightful whenever I have the money to spend.

I have to say (yes, I realize this a stupid thread made by a stupid poster who is long gone, but still)... I am becoming a bit more of a beer drinker. I have one once or twice a week now. Mostly just like to go to the local coffee house after a couple hours of swimming in the river, sit back and relax and watch people come and go, over-listen conversations or read a good book.
It's rather relaxing, actually. Would be more fun with someone else there, but you cant win em' all.
Anyways where I was going with this is the coffee house does not have any IPAs, however it has Rio Blanco Pale which is brewed here in Texas and honestly is quite good, very hop-py. I have no problem sitting around drinking a pitcher... although it gets me more intoxicated much more quickly than Guinness, which is not a positive.

I love that beer. They also make one aged in a rum cask. It's good. VERY good.
Said it before and Iĺl say it again. Irish Stout has to be THE least beer-tasting brew I ever drank. Calling Guinness your favorite beer, is on par with saying you don't like beer.
Shiranu already posted the Trappist beers. Brewn by monks. There's a dutch one he left out (La Trappe) brewn near Tilburgh where my dad grew up. The cream of the crop imho is the Rochefort though. Brewing perfection! the no 10 is the quadruppel which went through 4 fermentation cycles.

religious devotion applied to beerbrewing can really put one's antitheism to the test.
The Netherlands is like this beer-epicentre. German brews to the east. Belgian gold to the south. British ales from across the pond. And the land of Heineken and Grolsch smack in the middle. If you like beer, it's good to be a dutchman.
Some other belgian beers to consider: Verboden vrucht, Duvel, Het elfde gebod, Hoegaarden Grand Cru, Speciale Palm, Geuze Lambik
Duvel... Christ... my New Zealander mate summed that one up when he said, "It's loik drinkin' a fackin' hand grenade."

I've had a decent local amber ale from Rosoe's Hop House. They also make a decent Belgian white that I prefer to Blue Moon. They're based out of Rochester NY, so not really "close", but it is the next state North of me. Rochester is about a 6 hr drive from where I am... Lol

I prefer jupiler myself, but am glad Stella is going more and more global.
I don't drink beer anymore, but just looking at this thread suggests something I've always believed whole heartedly: Any beer that represents quality and a good taste, doesn't come in a can.
I made that observation at a college party one time to a bunch of people that were each on their tenth or twelfth can of beer, and they just looked at me foggy brained like what I said didn't register. It would seem the point of drinking beer was just to get shit faced, which partly explains why they were all drinking Lucky Lager and Great Falls Select.
Yeah, gotta second that. Bottled beer is where it's at for me too. O0
Some of those posted here do come in cans too though :p
And I've had some pretty nasty bottled ones. Heineken, 365 bier, cara pils, ...
These like 'stella' and 'jupiler' are 'pils', which often come in both bottle and can variants. But while the latter, I like. The former I dislike.
But for stronger beers, like Duvel, Westmalle, Chimay, ... these you don't find in cans and indeed they tend to be on a different level all together.
But then again 'tafelbier', or I suppose 'table beer', tends to come in big bottles but is horrible in my opinion. It's only a remnant of a time when beer was healthier to drink than water. And I don't understand how it keeps getting produced.
Oh, btw, if you ever have the chance, you MUST drink this one:

religious devotion applied to beerbrewing can really put one's antitheism to the test.
Several things,
1. Irish stout is a good representation of the stout style of beer. There are MANY different styles of beers that "don't taste like beer" including Lambics(using wild yeast and often containing fruits), porters(with heavy dark chocolate and coffee notes), Sasions(taste like cat piss smells to me but there is a huge calling for them), and Hefeweizen(banana-y clove-y weirdness), and several others.
A lot of the flavors that people attribute to "beer taste" is due to the yeast being used. So much so that there is a big thing amongst home brewers and micro breweries to take the grain bill of one style of beer and use a different yeast to see what you get flavor wise.
2. No beer goes through more than one fermentation. Quadruppel simply refers to the ABV. A quad is a minimum of 10% ABV. But there are many others that have higher ABV. Scottish wee heavies are a good example of that one(min of 15% ABV).

Had that and a Corona.
Corona - 6.5/10. Not amazing, but not as bad as I expected (much, much better than it's Americano brethren). Just a solid beer that, if something better like Guinness or a Belgian isn't available is certainly drinkable.
Heineken - 7.1/10. Again, not amazing, but I like it because of how different from the other beers I drink it tastes. Had an earthy-ness and lightness to it that I really liked. If I am looking something different from my dark beers this would probably be one of my first choices.
Up next, the mainstream Belgian... Stella Artois. Probably will do it tomorrow.

Same. Any party I've gone to with massive amounts of people would seem like the main point was for everyone to get piss-ass drunk, which I'm not really a fan of. Plus the beer they had was watered down piss water.... like Coors or Bud Lite. It doesn't taste good at all and the only point of that beer, IMO, is to get drunk off of it.
There are very few beers I like enough to actually let touch my tastebuds, and it's usually a stout or a belgian style beer.... or some seasonal brew. Other than that, I stick to liquor because I like the taste the best and it doesn't give me a stomach ache.
Fat tire, amber ale.

I don't get the appeal of beer to get smashed; if you want to get wasted, buy something that will do it quicker for cheaper... a cheap vodka or something.
I am not a huge liquor person though, but then when I drink to get drunk I'm not particularly paying attention to how it tastes anyways. The alcohol just drowns out too much flavour imo for them to be good.

You need to know how to mix it if you're making a cocktail. In most drinks it's usually only an ounce of base liquor in something like a rum and coke or a gin and tonic or even a white russian. anything more will drown out what it's supposed to taste like. Trust me, I'm a certified mixologist.
Plus always stay away from cheap liquor. That shit'll get you sick real quick.

Yeah, getting beer drunk is not my thing. I never liked to get pasted in the first place, and beer for me is when the weather is hot and I'm working outside or otherwise generating a major thirst. And I frankly don't get into liquor enough to be anything like an afficionado. I like Scotch, single malt and blended, not real choosy. Used to be a single malt guy but either one is fine.
Aye , when it comes to the Whisky im not too fussy tho i do have a few that i buy more than others , and like yourself Strom, Blended, Single malt, ill say Gimme Gimme...
A " dram" was the first article of hospitality presented to a stranger on entering a Highland hut. Not, however, till after the subjugation of the Highlands and the amalgamation of the two peoples, did whisky come to be regarded as a Lowland Scottish drink..

I've had the alcoholic root beer, which isn't bad, and which might make an interesting float in the summer except that there's some flavor in the background that isn't going to play nice with vanilla ice cream, so some serious research might be necessary.

And, as indicated, chocolate cake. The Guinness adds a subtle smokiness that plays so very nicely with the chocolate. And it's moist, moist, moist -- so amazingly good. I really need to make another one.

Do you have to inflate your shoes first, Mr. Tirebiter?

i like strong beer.
girls drink %5 alcohol.
Most of the beer in your country has 5 % alcohol. The two same shit with high alcohol made to compete of two brands taste like piss of a man who died of a massive gangren wound.
What is this strong beer you like in Turkey?

You get a like just for knowing Firesign Theatre (and yes, I'd decided that if I ever home brewed, I'd call it the same thing). :D

Well, how can you be in 2 places at once if your not anywhere at all?
Antelope Freeway, 1/2 mile...
Antelope Freeway, 1/4 mile...
Antelope Freeway, 1/8th mile...
Antelope Freeway, 1/16th mile .
And if you lived here, you'ld be home by now!
Antelope Freeway, 1/32nd mile...
But I'll stop... Or maybe not
Antelope Freeway, 1/64th of a mile...
Antelope Freeway, 1/128th of a mile...
Antelope Freeway, 1/254th of a mile...

That was the first FT album I ever heard, and slipping Zeno's Paradox into the background of a dense audio portrait hooked me. Then I listened to the other side and was safely nailed into place as a Firehead.
Edit: True story: I went to Catholic grade school, and during art class we students took turns bringing in an album to listen to while working on our projects. My turns ended when I brought in "Everything You Know Is Wrong". :D

It's a "meh" beer, but if I'm just at a bar I'll normally grab this rather than drop $6+ on some small bottle of craft beer. It's local and from the part of the state my dad's family immigrated from Germany and the Czechoslovakia to, so it's more symbolic than rather, "Ooo I really like it.".
shiner bock taste terrible
Don't know about shiner;
But these bocks ain't half bad:

It's better than any American corporate beers, and it's cheap. It's also fresher since I live about an hour from Shiner.

Again, when I am at a bar I don't want to drop $8.00+ to get a "good" beer in a bottle half the size of a $3.00 Shiner. The closest is the little hipster bar's happy hour, where they sale several Texan crafts, in pitchers, for $4.00. Good beer + a decent price is always nice. I don't go to bars to enjoy beer, I go to bars to listen to loud music and get drunk.
If I am at home, I am going to go with real beer; beer straight from Bavaria and the Czech Republic. The Belgians are good, but they are amateurs when it comes to competing with a Bavarian Hefeweiser or an actual Czech pilsner.

I have a sudden urge to listen to all the records... Hello Georgie Tirebiter, Nick Danger, and all the Nirobians!
Oh praise Bob, Columbus Brewing is making their red Scottish ale again! The long national nightmare is over!

Is Wild Goose India Pale Ale available anywhere?
I'm doing a month without alcohol.
You're all vile temptresses!
I can remember the time when the choice was between cheap shit beer, 12 cans or bottles for a buck 99 or the expensive shit, 3 bucks 99 all made in one or two breweries around the country. Budweiser was the king of beers and since the rest of the beers were pretty much shit nobody really noticed that Budweiser was just slightly less shitty. Now Budweiser is about as shitty as shitty gets. The last time I bought a 6 pack of it I took one sip and left the rest in the bathroom at the YMCA in Columbus Ohio.
Ahhh, the good old days when the only choice you had to make was shit or just slightly less shitty.
I chose to quit drinking. I don't miss the all day hangovers..

I've seen it but not tried it. I'm not especially an IPA fan. I'll drink 'em if they have 'em, but I don't seek them out.

A pale ale on a hot day is great. That's why they created it. For the British in India where it is hot.
Not much of a beer drinker but when I do...it's Corona

I am not a beer drinker either. But as the "world's most interesting theist" ... I am disappointed your beer isn't Dos Equis ;-) For me, only Guinness and only with fish and chips.
My favorite beer is none. It's all swill. In college I found that after the 3/4 one, they all tasted good. And they continued to taste good until I passed out.
I do like a Corona. Picked up a pumpkin pie hard cider, to which it turns out I am largely indifferent. I wouldn't turn one down if offered, but I wouldn't actively seek it out. It is very much a mildly alcoholic, carbonated shrug of the shoulders.
For me, anything with enough hops to run the bitterness off the scale. At the moment it's Aviator (a local NC brewery) Hog Wild. Not quite hoppy enough for me, but I no longer brew my own, so I have to drink what's available.

hahahaha I laughed out loud. :D ''world's most interesting theist.''
I'm not a theist anymore. ;=)
ETA, wait are you referring to yourself? I just noticed you tagged yourself as ''free thinking theist.'' This is a thread for another time. lol

Yes, referring to myself, but more handsome than the old Dos Equis guy ... not just more interesting ;-p
At 16, any beer I could get was good.
At 17, I drank the least bad really cheap beer I could get.
At 18, I went off to college and had to drink even cheaper beer. Old Reingold Chug-A-Mug. Wide throat top so it could go down faster.
At 21, having a job and pay, I drank my Dad's brand, Budweiser.
At 25, I discovered better beers. Not much better, but I was earning a bit more then.
At 35, I was drinking Heineken and Moosehead.
At 45, I discovered India Pale Ales. Wild Goose India Pale Ale was the finest beer I ever drank in hot weather and Moosehead (to me) was the best routinely.
At 50, I realized that "routinely" was not really a very good idea.
At 55, I switched to wine because I just didn't drink all that much of it. I like reds and tried a lot of brands. I settled on 'Twisted Zin' zinfandel. I drink a couple glasses with dinner and that's about it.
At 67, I haven't changed... When I think of how much I used to drink, I'm amazed I am still alive. I don't plan to drink less, but I sure won't drink more ever again.

I forgot about Blue Moon, I like that beer if I'm in the mood for one.
Tried some Santa Fe Happy Camper IPA yesterday. It was solid, probably not worth the price, but I had to show some home state pride and... I mean... just look at that damn can!
