Post by: AtDawnTheySquee on February 08, 2014, 11:17:24 PM
Behold, my based taste in metal.

Yea, you can post and discuss metal here. Oh and the more obscure a band is the better.

I'm probably not the best person to be talking about metal seeing as I'm usually more of a video game soundtrack guy myself, but here is one of the few places where the two cross over:

There are plenty of Metal game soundtracks, especially considering there is a whole game based off of it. Here's an example, from final fantasy of all places:

Well there's the problem: I never played Final Fantasy. (Not that I ever intend to fix that.)

It's just an example. :x  Here, how about God of War, on the whole other side of the genre spectrum:

There are plenty of metal songs in games, so long as you play games other than Touhou, of course.

This is where people suddenly realise I'm from the other side of the world, because the difference between everything posted so far and what follows beneath is huge :P

Equilibrium are my current favorite. They do folk metal, lots of good melody, lots of loud noise and lots of screaming :P
[youtube:1iuhmtmc]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yom8nNqmxvQ[/youtube:1iuhmtmc]

Blind Guardian are a sort of must-know I guess.
[youtube:1iuhmtmc]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ga-q0F7oWnU[/youtube:1iuhmtmc]

I'm not really familiar with this band, but this specific song is amazing :P
[youtube:1iuhmtmc]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ir_BVxBz5do[/youtube:1iuhmtmc]

These guys make song that describe historical events during wars, which is awesome. And non-judgemental. One of the few bands that make heavy metal and can still end with you feeling really sad, especially when they sing about things like the holocaust or the first world war. (Listed song is not very sad. If you want sad, look up Final Solution or Price of a Mile or something)
[youtube:1iuhmtmc]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBjxX9ur_9U[/youtube:1iuhmtmc]

And to finish, some various other tracks from (mostly) European metal bands.

Here's one of my favorite Black Sabbath songs:

As a side note, does anyone know the specific dictionary difference between Rock and Metal, because I'm having the hardest time remembering which of the bands I like classify as which.

Psttt. Pickled Eggs, I too love MegaMan music, but the thread is for, ya know, metal? It's okay though, I got ya covered on game metal. Here's a metal version of Bloody Tears:
[youtube:yomdq5x6]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgkxSkF7QOU[/youtube:yomdq5x6]
And here's some Dragonforce for the non-game inclined:

The first one was good, but Dragonforce is a bit horrible, IMO
Yngwie is a personal favorite of mine though

QuoteAs a side note, does anyone know the specific dictionary difference between Rock and Metal, because I'm having the hardest time remembering which of the bands I like classify as which

There are different types of metal and rock, for instance most mainstream rock from the 80's was light with some interludes into Heavy rock, which is music that leans towards metal but isn't quite there.

[youtube:3qtpqzpb]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOhnKIVLzOw[/youtube:3qtpqzpb]

That video would be considered Heavy rock, not quite metal but not the average rock song either.

Metal also usually has a story attached to it, more than the average song. For instance; the entire album of 7th son of a 7th son was about that child, Iron Maiden told a small saga with each song that it did.

There are also different versions of metal, I prefer classical metal which is thumping and usually has a sort of operatic sounding singer. Like Bruce Dickinson.

There's also scream which isn't my taste, but is classified as metal. It's loud and the singer is usually screaming as loud as they can.

Finally there's grunge, which is a sort of hybrid between genres, Nirvana usually gave me that feel
