Nope.. don't wear nor own any type of religious paraphernalia except a few teeth in honor of the tooth fairy..
The previous owners left a decent size pile of odds and ends in our current house when we bought it including a few religious objects. The first time we came to the house after closing, I don't think we were in the door more than 60 seconds when my wife pulled the crucifix off the wall and put it in the trash bag.

No and no. And that second statement is incredibly incorrect. The Christian cross represents Christianity (obviously), not western culture.

But it has its share of the western way of life, historically ;)

Christianity is prevalent in the west, not the other way around. But so what?
The only personal decoration I wear are bracelets that I get when I volunteer at festivals. So no, nothing religious or anything.
Holy Moley, what a troll-ey. You do realize that an upside down cross is considered a sacred symbol by Catholicism, right? Its because St. Peter choose to be crucified that way.
Oh, I see you're wearing a cross. You must be from a western culture!
Why yes, I also march around holding this flag of my country, but you didn't notice. I used to drag around 200 Kilo wooden cross, but with the flag and all, it was a bit much. Then some people told me I was being pretentious dragging that wooden cross to the grocery store and into the movie theater, and I thought, "How are people supposed to know that I'm from a western culture if I don't drag this cross around." Finally, my wife said, "Herman you look like an idiot dragging that cross to work. Here! I got you this little gold cross you can wear around your neck, so people know you are from a western culture.

What, they give you a choice? How would you like to be crucified? Right side up, upside down, or sideways?
Well, upside down, of course!
I've always wondered if 'Jebus' had been drowned in a shit pile full of piss would Xtians do hand stands when they shit ànd piss or just wear a dried turd on a chain around their necks?

According to legend, St. Peter considered himself unworthy to be crucified the same way as Jesus.

Stupid question! Maybe you don't understand Americans because you are lost in silliness.

*collapses laughing* :rollin:
Anyway, like Bill Hicks said: having been crucified, you'd think the last thing Jesus would want to see on his return would be a cross....
I wear an ankh, does that make me bisexual? :-$ Solitary
I have a strainer in my kitchendrawer, which could be considered a pastafarian symbol.
Thanks for your participation ;)
On occasion, I run across a photo of a well-endowed women, either naked or scantily clad, with a heavy cross dangling in her cleavage. That's the only time the cross has religious significance for me.
Frank
> I have a strainer in my kitchendrawer, which could be considered a pastafarian symbol.
Doesn't anyone screen these posts?
Frank
I wear no religious symbol of any kind, nor am I tattoed with it, nor do I own any.
the only thing I wear other than normal clothes is an NY rangers baseball cap, other than that no jewelry or accessories of any kind.
I like funny troll pets.
It's cool. It's like a dangling jewelry so peaceful and warmth...
I do not wear any pendant, no Om, no swastika (Many hindus wear such things - but I am a different variety, Atheist). I do not even wear a watch for the last 25 years. No mobile phone. Life is so peaceful.
My wife is Catholic so we have every kind of Christian icon you can have in the house and outside in the yard for decoration. I also have a Buddha statue in the yard and a pagan tombstone. I also have Native American artifacts in the house. That's all they are---DECORATIONS. I forgot, my wife has a dildo that looks like the Virgin Mary she used to use to get to heaven. :rollin: Solitary
Some might, I don't.
NO, I don't wear anything religious related..unless you count my GOODWITHOUTGOD pro atheist t shirt that says I have a close personal relationship with reality on the back :)
I know plenty I people who wear a crucifix because it is simple and symmetrical and no other reason, even though I would never wear one myself.
The shape of it makes it hang well between a woman's cleavage.
Nah, I think it would clash with my gurney and needle jewelry.

Apparently some jews wear crosses despite being jewish. Back before I ditched my cross, I was asked if I was jewish. I said, "don't you see my cross? I'm christian" She said that even though she was jewish she sometimes wears a cross to fit in, it looks good, etc. And she asked me because my last name is Polish and I live in a town that a good portion is Jewish, she figured that I was.
Never have, never will.
Nope.
Lol I don't think the cross is strictly a symbol of western culture. A girl I once dated briefly was actually born in Iraq, and lived there for a while, she wore the cross and so did her family. She said that the remaining Christians there all wore the cross for sectarian identification and to retain their identity as Christians. But even though she wore the cross she was a secular person and so was her family.
I think that saying the cross is a symbol of western culture, strictly, is a misconception.

I'd probably lose my job if I wore something like that. Sad but true.
No. I also don't wear guillotines, iron maidens, racks, brazen bulls, a pillory, thumbscrews, or other torture devices for decorative purposes.
I do own a few simple necklaces, a very plain watch, and one bracelet that my in laws keep giving me charms for (so I feel obligated to wear it now and then). I also like engraved rings, but only own one.
I wonder where the origins of human self-decoration through piercings, jewelery, tattoos etc. really started a lot of info is conflicting.
On CF, I've heard of perhaps one atheist that wore religious bling. That's assuming the Christian wasn't lying to me.
I wear the three symbols on my avatar as pendants: Peace, Life, and Diversity. On a couple of occasions my Ankh has been mistaken for a cross, but I'm always quick to correct the notion.
No, I do not wear any type of jewelry including time jewelry. I do have jackets and pants with zippers.
Actually, oddly enough... I just found out my brother claims to be agnostic even though he wears a crucifix. He says its because it represents a good person...

Irish.

It is tradition that Peter was crucified upside down but it is an excellent point to discern if he was really given a choice of the directional issues of the crucifixion.

I know two atheists that wear crosses. One to mock Christianity with to others. (3rd grade mentality) and the other because she is still searching for something more in her life.

Reminds me about the day I moved into my first-ever house , which I removed a picture of Ronald Reagan that the previous owners had left, and tossed it in the garbage where it belonged.
I have never worn a cross and never will.
No, I don't wear jewelry of any sort.
I wore two crosses and a St. Christopher's medal for a long time, but I was never religious. They were given to me by Catholic family members and I felt guilty not wearing them, it was almost an obligation.
Now I wear an Italian pepper.
Wearing crosses is a long tradition of human decoration, basically stating "this is me, this is what I believe, look at it, this is what I am a part of". Although I wouldn't expect Christians to appreciate anybody delving into the psychological reasons of why people wear crosses, it seems like Christians don't like researching anything except what proves them right.
perhaps tattoos and piercings led the way, followed by jewelry and now back to tats and stabs.
The cross is a pagan symbol that was adored in Egypt thousands of years before Jesus was born. The Roman Catholic Church adopted the cross symbol at least 600 years after Jesus was supposedly crucified. Even the early Christians of North Africa rejected the wooden cross after Tertullian condemned it.

It signified my paying homage to Dumpster Jesus.
(I'm Johan's wife, just for reference).
I tend to stay away from displaying torture devices.
...
I have no aversion to wearing a cross, nor do I have an aversion to displaying them in my home. I have several crosses on artwork in my home(I am a HUGE Gothic Art fan). And like christards or not lets be honest, they did make some of the worlds most beautiful buildings.
I'd wear a cross just to get idiots excited upon meeting me.. then I'd lower the boom! The anti-christ boom. But no, I wouldn't wear a cross. I'm glad people do wear crosses, then you know what you're dealing with.

=D> I guess breasts are the exception.
BTW, crosses were used way before christians highjacked them for their religion.
It's not something I would wear as in secular European society as it is it would tend to provoke a negative reaction or be taken as a sign of a demented mind. In Christianity you can just "look like normal people" anyway you don't have to dress up and show off.
