Green card holders still have to pay taxes.  But feel free to give up your citizenship if it'll make you feel better.

A US passport is a good thing to have when traveling. Plus, living overseas, there's a tax exemption of around US$95,000. Plus I want to vote in US elections.

That's why I won't give up my US citizenship.

The benefits of citizenship have dwindled in recent decades. But don't worry taxes are still what they have always been.

Eventually, it will be exactly the opposite.  The American dollar as reserve currency and the petro-dollar status that it currently holds is on its way out.  When the floor falls out from underneath the value of the dollar, taxes will go up and standards of living will go down.  People will be screaming to get out of the U.S. and somehow lose their citizenship to this country.  It's only a matter of time.

Some of you need to stop watching so much Faux News. The US isn't in nearly as bad shape as some would have us believe. Our top income tax rate is lower than that of most of western Europe. As is our total tax burden. While the US government may carry the largest debt, it is still a lower percentage of our economy than what is owed by those same western European countries.

Are you serious?  We are on a fiat money system that is moving toward burnout?  The market would crash if it wasn't being pumped full of credit by the Fed.  The only reason we aren't experiencing terrible inflationary consequences is that banks, business, and people are sitting on trillions of dollars and holding down the velocity of money.  Everything necessary for economic growth is either growing at much lower rates or becoming far more scarce.  I'm speaking of lower and lower discoveries of oil, higher extraction rates, dropping ore grades of nearly ever necessary ore copper, nickels, goal, etc...  They've changed the CPI to understate inflation and the GDP calculation to overstate growth.  In virtually every single way one can imagine, we are being lied to.  Oh, and just as a point of information, I don't watch Fox News.  The only news channel I actually have is CNN, and it's virtually impossible to get actual news from CNN as it is.

Why would you have as your only news channel a channel you think doesn't give actual news? :-s

The company I have for my internet doesn't offer another, unless you can to count the Hysterical Ladies Network (HLN), which is a CNN extension.  But that's why I tend not to watch it.  I don't watch a lot of TV in general.  I get most of my news on-line.

Since ALL reserve currency is fiat, that has nothing to do with US citizenship (or the US in general).

Not that there's anything wrong with fiat money, as long as it's handled properly (which it never has been, because so few people actually understand economics - and economists understand it least of all).
