Title: Hello
Post by: Antyla on August 12, 2013, 04:58:02 AM
I am Aiglentina, but you guys can just call me Antyla for short. I got the name Antyla from my favorite anime. I am an Agnostic & I like discussing religion in a very delicate manner only with religious individuals. The most religion tale that I fancy is the Islamic tale because of it's easy & understandable ideas. I am also a former adult webcam model, I stopped modeling because now I can earn decent earnings from college & I used to do it because I had to, not because I enjoyed it.
Peace. <3

Welcome.
A few things that I don't understand.
I can't understand what an agnostic really is. Either you require proof of a god or you take it on faith that a god exist. So what the hell is an agnostic. Is it that you are just insecure and won't commit, or do you not actually know what an atheist is?
Also I often wondered how anyone would get into the sex/porno business. It seems too dangerous a life style. I know it isn't the same here as it is in Europe, but again I think you could work at Mickey Ds and be safer.
I can't stand the men that watch porn. They devalue women, themselves and life in general. Is it so hard to make friends and find a meaningful relationship that it creates a multi-billion dollar industry based on personal failures?
I would imagine that you were exploited and that isn't fun at all. I could imagine that your selfesteem was very low. I hope that you have found a better place and that your new life is better.
BTW I am not interested in any pictures or videos. I think requesting them from you even as a joke is uncalled for.
Heres what an atheist really is IMO. An atheist is a NORMAL person. A person that requires proof before they believe things. A person that is not superstitious, or suseptible to being duped by propaganda or lies. A person that secure and confident. A person that is praticle and compassionate, that values life for what it is, not for what some has decided that it may be. A person not pressured by peers society or a crowd to believe something just so they can fit in. An individual.
Thats what I am anyway.
Good luck to you!

Here is an example: Q: is there a god

Atheist: No
Agnostic: IDK

I had to work as a webcam model for awhile because I could make my own schedule, easy & provides a lot of cash, nothing more. Working as a webcam model was not fun in the slightest, most men over there were dull, slimy & unfunny. They used to crack the cheesiest jokes while I'm in a middle an orgasm which was not even pleasing. I would rather masturbate alone than with those creeps, I also faked smiles, which something I never do. & it isn't a 'business,' it is something so simple that anybody can do it for free on a webcam site. Yes I do have problems, I am a sick person. I enjoy being alone & I feel like if I see a boner I would slit it's head off. I see a therapist. I really don't like to categorize or generalize people. A good smart person is a good smart person, not because he's an Atheist, Muslim or a Christian.
Thanks for the chitchat!

Not really.  The agnostic would probably respond that way, but atheism has nothing to do with whether there is a god or not, just with whether the individual believes in any god or gods.  A gnostic atheist says there are no gods, an agnostic atheist says he doesn't know whether any god exists.  Neither one believes in any gods.

Atheism isn't belief in lack of gods, it's lack of belief in gods.  (Agnosticism is just not making existential statements for which you have no evidence.)

So there are 4 possibilities:

1) Agnostic atheist
2) Gnostic atheist
3) Agnostic theist (I believe in God but I can't be sure that he exists)
4) Gnostic theist (I know that God exists and I believe in him)

You'll find that most here are agnostic atheists.

But welcome to the madhouse here.

Quote from: "Antyla"Here is an example: Q: is there a god

More like:

Atheist: Not enough evidence to say.

The fact of the matter is that if you neither worship nor acknowledge any deities for any reason, you are an atheist. Folks who self-identify as agnostics will agree there is not enough evidence to justify worshiping a god. Unless you're some crazy kookoo, you probably don't proceed to worship these gods anyway; ergo, you're an atheist. All agnostics are atheists and most atheists are agnostics. The only reason agnostic exists as a term to self-identify as is because people like to pretend there's a an enlightened "third position" that has hit upon something the other two parties have not. In reality, agnostics are as bad as theists at recognizing what an atheist even is, as they have fallen prey to the same propaganda stating that we are ardently against the idea of there being deities.

The point I was making about agnostic is that an Atheist just doesn't waste time contemplating a god. An atheist doesn't say that there couldn't be a god, we just believe there is one untill there is evidence that there is a god. Just like we don't believe that there is a giant purple cow on the other sun unless someone proofs it. An agnostic isn't a true position. It states that you wonder if there is a god or not. Why waste so much mental energy when there is no proof of a god?
Hey just to let you know, we are all sick people. We all have something that we must deal with. I'm glad that you are proactive about what you are dealing with. You know there is someone that will and can love you, not because you are physically beautiful, but you are just beautiful. BTW I have no idea who you are, that is the advantage of the internet. You will and can find happiness. Good luck in your quest.

Everyone has problems. It's probably a good thing that you're honest about yours. I've found it's healthier to be open about your faults.... which is why I also see a Psychologist :)  Nothing wrong with that.
QuoteI am a sick person.
Obviously I don't know you THAT well, but I can guess that you're probably not as sick as you think... or at least in comparison to other people.

One of the people that went to the art studio I go to was a professional stripper for a number of years. She is a really genuine person... probably more than most people I know.  :)

And I always thought the difference between atheist and agnostic was atheists were more of a nonexistent until proven existent... where agnostic is "who cares? I don't know"

All viewpoints aside, I give you credit for being forthright about yourself. That takes guts, internet or not.

To me the difference between atheist and agnostic is more self definition than anything, two sides of the same river. The argument can be made that we are all agnostic simply because there is no final and absolute evidence to completely rule out god. My experience is that we more or less transcend to atheism, from agnostic to agnostic atheist to hard atheist, which I consider myself now.

The rejection of belief, not the rejection of the existence of a god.  There's a HUGE difference.  One relates solely to belief, the other relates solely to knowledge.

QuoteQ: is there a god

A Chill Boss Atheist: Nah...
Sorry, but "is there" has nothing to do with atheism.  It's not toughening things up too much, any more than "water" means "Pepsi".

QuoteAs the German legend, Albert E, said; 'If you cannot explain it simply, you do not understand it well enough'
Simply, atheism deals with belief, agnosticism deals with making statements about existence.  That's pretty simple.

There's a difference between simple, simplistic and wrong.

(You may be an atheist and ALSO say that there is no god, but that doesn't make atheism be about the existence of a god.)
Title: Re: Hello

To add to what Colanth said, atheism, as defined in most atheist forums, is more of a neutral position:

[center:kusdj52x]Belief that a god exits   ---   No Belief   ---  Belief that god does not exist[/center:kusdj52x]

Since no one can prove one way or the other, most of us are in the middle.  We don't know or don't care.  We are not committed to a belief one way or the other.  We are, in fact, neutral.  Not all of us, but most of us.  It's common for Christians to believe there are only two positions in the above scale (for or against), but that's a fallacy of the excluded middle.

What may confuse them is that we are most definitely against a lot of things.  For example, running our government on religious principles.  That gets us all hot under the collar.  We bitch about it and get quite negative, and I admit we sometimes sound like we are damn sure that a god doesn't exist.  Actually, what we are committed to is pressing theists to show us that their religious beliefs are universally correct and in everyone else's best interests.  Since they can't, they often end up getting angry.  And since they can't think straight to begin with, they make unwarranted assumptions about what our position really is.

The opposite of a specific belief is not just a different belief, it's no belief.
