Title: Intro
Post by: Docillinois on August 07, 2021, 10:52:54 AM
I believe that, as time goes by, attempts by the religious to reconcile the religious worldview with the tradition of science, Socratic dialectic, and Enlightenment values are increasing in hollowness and affectation.

I believe I can no longer think of a good reason to justify the fact that people are still driving cars when we travel in them.

I believe that if one isn't willing to treat others in a way that enables them to maintain their dignity or to conduct themselves in a way designed to earn respect from others, one shouldn't act caught unaware by the consequent reactions.

I believe that sports, not being earnest endeavor, should be viewed sufficiently as entertainment and possibly as an exercise method.

And if there's a heathen band here, I'll add my name to the tryout list for guitar player.

Lol, my standard welcome is: 'welcome to our little band of heathens.'

So welcome, mister guitare man.

In any case, I'm kind of lost on your second sentence

Welcome to the site--hope your stay is productive for you.  You play guitar--for some reason my mind jumped to Duane Eddy. :)  Rebel Rouser and Forty Miles of Bad Road anyone???

Self driving cars: we're far over due.

These beliefs were randomly assigned to the OP, at any rate; watching the content and tenor of someone's posts in the forums can be far more telling, in my experience.

Duane Eddy - the first guitarist to ever have a signature model guitar.

Didn't know that.  But he was the first one to catch my ear.  Seems to me Forty Miles of Bad Road could very well be this countries theme song.  Except the bad road will stretch much longer than 40 miles.

Fully agreed.  Others, maybe not so much.  Imho, the tech is there and there's no technical reason why this can't be a thing.  However, people get used to doing things one way and inherently resist changing.  Fears abound, as well.  Truckers losing their jobs, people being stealthily offed, the "independence" mystique of driving being undermined, etc.

Purely from a moral standpoint, I'd make the switch.  Casualty figures per year would improve significantly.  Not to mention financial benefits.  You'd be paying a lot less for car insurance, that's for sure.  Additionally, the lesser-sung quality of life improvements to having less traffic congestion as well as having your car drop you off or pick you up.  You effectively never have to bother hunting for a parking space again.

Theists need the support of science, but science also annoys many theists, actually most of them at least part of the time.  If I see another article about religion and science coming together, I think I'm going to scream.  They have about as much in common as tap dancing and the soap box derby.  If tap dancers made a big deal about finding common ground with the soap box derby, people would write tap dancers off as crazy people.
